Maximo Quiles admits he still gets a ‘telling off’ from Marc Marquez in training sessions

Marc Marquez is helping to guide Maximo Quiles towards stardom in MotoGP, and he still gives his protege a ‘telling off.’

The 18-year-old joined the Marquez brothers’ management in early 2024. Quiles went on to make his Moto3 debut in 2025, finishing third in the standings.

In 2026, the Spaniard is dominating Moto3, winning six races and finishing on the podium in all but one race thus far. Quiles will step up to Moto2 in 2027, and he will have arguably the best mentors around him to guide him through it.

Marc Marquez still gives Maximo Quiles a ‘telling off’ during training

Marquez has promised Quiles he would ‘wait’ for him to get to MotoGP. In theory, he could be in the premier class in 2028, and the Ant of Cervera has agreed a contract until then with Ducati.

Whether Quiles will be competitive in Moto2 next season is to be seen, but with the guidance behind him, there is every chance that he will be.

Speaking via the PecinoGP YouTube channel, Quiles praised Marquez for everything he has taught him, and he admitted that the Ducati rider is still hard on him.

“It really is an honour to be with Marc and Alex; they’ve got loads of experience and have helped me out a lot,” he said. “[He’s] also helped me a lot financially, with learning and everything. So, what I value most is what you learn and the experience they have.

Asked if Marquez gives him demands and a telling off, he replied: “No. At the start, yes, when I was little, well, they’d tell me off and keep me in line a bit so I wouldn’t lose focus, but now they know I’m more grown-up.

“Even so, they still give me a telling-off now and then, but, well, they’ve more or less got me under control now.”

Quiles leads the Moto3 championship by 104 points over fellow Spaniard Brian Uriarte at the halfway stage. He looks in complete control of the championship, and it will be hard for anyone to get the better of him.
