Marc Marquez has ridden many generations of bikes throughout his career, but the ‘style’ of his Hondas is the one he prefers because they were ‘without aerodynamics’.
The Spaniard joined Honda in 2013 and was instantly on the ball, winning six titles between 2013 and 2019. The partnership was a match made in heaven, with Marquez proving unstoppable on their machines.
Even when the team started to regress in performance, the Ant of Cervera continued to outperform the bike and dominate. Jorge Lorenzo believes Marquez would have kept winning with Honda if he stayed with them, but instead, he found his way to Ducati.

Marc Marquez prefers the ‘style’ of his old Honda bikes compared to his Ducati
Marquez realised Ducati were much smaller than Honda in terms of staff, but it was the Italians who were making the bigger strides forward. Luigi Dall’Igna was at the forefront of technical innovations in MotoGP, including aerodynamics and holeshot devices.
Since 2020, Ducati have won every constructors’ championship and have claimed four riders’ titles, three of which came from the factory team in Bagnaia in 2022 and 2023 and Marquez in 2025.

Today’s bikes have a much higher top speed than the previous generation. But Marquez says he prefers his old Hondas from the mid-2010s as they were less dependent on aerodynamics.
Asked what the best bike he has ever ridden is, Marquez said via the Bike World YouTube channel: “The best bike. I mean, where I was enjoying the bikes more was 2014, ’15, ’16, without aerodynamics.
“Now, it’s true that they are very nice to ride, but it’s like more robot style. I mean, you need to follow what the aerodynamics want, and you cannot override the bike. If you override the bike, you are against aerodynamics, and then you are even slower.
Has MotoGP gone too far with bike innovations or is rider talent still the deciding factor?
“So on that 2014, ’15, ’16, without aerodynamics, if you were [to] ride a bike, you were faster because you start to slide, you start to lose the front.
“Now, not anymore because now the problem is that the downforce we have, when you lose the front, we are pushing a lot the tyres and then there’s no coming back.
“So the bikes that I was riding for Honda. But it’s not because I was enjoying more with Honda than Ducati, it’s just the style of bike.”
