Marc Marquez has revealed the one MotoGP attribute that he would take from the sport’s notorious ‘fantastic five’, including Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner.

The late 2000s/early 2010s is often referred to as the golden generation of MotoGP’s modern era, with a multitude of world champions defining the sport for the next crop of competitors.

Who had the better racecraft, Valentino Rossi or Marc Marquez? Let us know why in the comments

Rossi often sparked controversy battling Marquez, like at Assen and Sepang in 2015

While Marquez shares a fairly amicable relationship with the majority of his former on-track rivals, the Spaniard’s rapport with Rossi remains icy following their lengthy spat in the premier class during the latter’s final years in the category.

However, both riders still have a lot of respect for what the other has achieved during their career, with Marquez now naming the attribute of Rossi’s that he would love to have.

In a recent interview with Moto.it, Marquez was asked for his thoughts on what he would take from each rider that was part of the sport’s ‘fantastic five’ golden era of the 2010s.

Beginning with three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo, Marquez said, “For me, Lorenzo has that consistency. When I arrived at the circuit, he was capable of riding the whole race within two tenths of a second.

“Sometimes a tenth over, sometimes a tenth under, but that’s what I’d take from Lorenzo. From [Dani] Pedrosa? Dani has the talent; for me, riding a MotoGP bike with his build and his weight is something you either have more talent than anyone else to do, or you simply can’t do it.

“He’s ridden a MotoGP bike, he’s won races; he hasn’t won the championship – I don’t know why, because he certainly deserves it – but that’s Pedrosa’s talent.

“As for [Casey] Stoner, his explosiveness – he’s very explosive. Setting the circuit record on the third lap is something that’s very difficult to do. As for Valentino, his race management.

“So often, over a weekend, it seemed as though he wasn’t there, but on Sunday, he’d manage the race and was capable of winning without being the fastest, or often winning whilst being the fastest, but managing the race very well.”

Finally, the reigning world champion was asked what he thinks his own strongest attribute is, to which he jokingly replied: “Well, lots of things,” before adding, “For me, it’s character.

“Character is something I’m proud of because I’ve always had my own character, my own ideas, and I’ll stick with that until the day I die.”
