Raul Fernandez took victory in the Assen Sprint race at the Dutch Grand Prix, leading a Trackhouse one-two as the factory Aprilia duo of Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi clashed for P4.
Saturday morning’s qualifying session saw Jorge Martin claim his first pole position in 616 days, edging Aprilia satellite rider Ai Ogura by just 0.011s with his final flying lap. The Japanese rider got a brilliant start as the lights went out, immediately taking the lead at turn one.
Joan Mir brought out yellow flags on the very first lap of the race, losing his Honda prototype at turn four. Ogura then lost the lead to Martin, while Marco Bezzecchi lost many places as he attempted an overtake on Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Martin started to pull out a gap on Ogura, who then lost P2 to his teammate, Raul Fernandez, which invited pressure from ‘Diggia’ behind. Fernandez wasted no time in catching his compatriot and was quickly on his rear wheel.

Meanwhile, the factory Ducati boys of Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia scrapped it out for P6. The reigning world champion managed to get the better of his teammate, which was followed by Fernandez making an advance on Martin for the lead of the race.
A fierce battle between Martin and Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi ensued, as Di Giannantonio and Ogura picked the Spaniard’s pocket to move up into the podium positions. All the while, Fernandez had stretched out a 1.2s gap at the front of the field.
Another incident at turn four saw Franco Morbidelli crash out on his own accord, joining Jack Miller and Mir as the only retirees of the race. Bagnaia looked to contend for Martin’s P5, but pulled out of a last-gasp overtake that could have resulted in a nasty crash.
Fernandez took the chequered flag first, leading Trackhouse’s first-ever one-two in any format of racing in the premier class, with Di Giannantonio rounding out the podium in P3.
Despite finishing in P6, Bagnaia was dropped down a place after falling guilty of exceeding track limits on the final lap of the race. As a result, Ducati teammate Marquez was bumped up a place.
