Brad Binder admits he has ‘a lot of homework’ to do to improve his pace at KTM as he continues to lag behind teammate Pedro Acosta.
Binder’s P10 at the Hungarian Grand Prix last time out was one of his better results this year. His best finish remains P7 – achieved at the season opener in Thailand as well as the Catalan GP.
The South African has only finished in the top six three times since the start of last season, while Acosta has scored eight podiums in the same period.
Brad Binder honest about his form at KTM
Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini finished ninth at Balaton Park to go level on points with Binder (48 apiece). Acosta has scored more (138) than the other three KTM competitors behind (102).
Binder felt he had made a breakthrough in Barcelona but his results since have been mediocre: 11th, 11th, 16th, 10th including Sprints.
Will Brad Binder be on the MotoGP grid in 2027?
While the South African expects a more enjoyable weekend at Brno, where he took his first MotoGP win, he remains unsure how to unlock pace from the RC16 without overriding.
“I thought I would be much stronger in Hungary and expected more,” said Binder. “I lacked pace because I had to work far too hard just to keep up. Still, 10th place.
“I have a lot of homework to do to find a way to improve. It’s no fun just fighting for tenth place.
“We’ll have more fun in Brno. There’s no other racetrack like it – a really cool circuit.”
Binder is fighting for his MotoGP future in the next two rounds, with KTM obliged to inform riders about their futures by the end of this month.
It’s been widely reported that Maverick Vinales is ahead of Binder in the race for a seat – it would be at Tech3 rather than the factory team – but he still needs to prove he can regain top form after a year of injury disruption.
