Liberty Media have reportedly decided to remove Balaton Park from the 2027 MotoGP calendar after just two years.
The Hungarian Grand Prix returned to the calendar last season for the first time since 1992, but several figures in the paddock have expressed safety concerns about the Balaton circuit.
According to El Periodico, the venue has been unavailable to convince Liberty and MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (formerly Dorna) that it should remain on the calendar. It’s now an ‘open secret’ that it will be dropped for 2027.

Aragon receives lifeline as Hungary drops off 2027 calendar
The report adds that the Hungarian government floated the idea of moving the race to the Hungaroring instead. But the longtime F1 venue requires modifications to be suitable for MotoGP.
There isn’t enough time to implement the necessary changes for 2027, but it may be viable for 2028.
Having debuted in 2010, Aragon was expected to drop off the calendar at the end of this year as Liberty look to globalise the calendar, which currently features four Spanish races.
Finally, after a year of talks with Liberty and MSEG, they have struck a €10m (£8.6m) deal to stay on the calendar in 2027, taking advantage of Hungary’s unforeseen absence.
The long-term future of the event remains uncertain, but MotoGP will visit for at least one more year.
Elsewhere, Phillip Island is controversially losing its place to a brand-new street circuit in Adelaide. The sport will also return to Argentina at a new venue in Buenos Aires.
AS are reporting that the traditional season launch event will be held in Miami as the sport seeks growth in the United States.
Liberty have also held talks with Miami officials about MotoGP racing on the F1 circuit, but this doesn’t appear to be on the cards for 2027.
