Trackhouse team principal Davide Brivio is reluctant to discuss his expected move to Honda for 2027, but he is not afraid to praise Fabio Quartararo ahead of his transfer.

It is an open secret in the MotoGP paddock that Quartararo has decided to end his time as a Yamaha rider and join their Japanese rivals Honda for the start of the 850cc regulations next year. Honda’s refresh in 2027 is also now believed to feature Brivio taking a consultancy role.

Reports emerged in January that Quartararo will join Honda in 2027 on a two-year contract, after the 2021 champion lost belief in Yamaha’s ability to return to the front of the grid. His deal is still to be confirmed due to the ongoing discussions between MotoGP and the teams.

There is very little chance of Honda not being on the MotoGP grid next year, and their drive to return to the front of the field has seen the Tokyo outfit turn to Brivio, as well. Reports in May suggested that Brivio will join Honda in 2027 to help shape the team’s strategic moves.

Davide Brivio claims ‘everyone’ knows that Fabio Quartararo is a ‘great rider’

As Brivio’s move to Honda has not yet been confirmed, the Trackhouse team principal notes that he “really” does not want to talk about the future. Instead, Brivio’s priority right now is what Trackhouse can achieve after what has already been a strong start to the 2026 season.

“Well, I don’t want to avoid this question, but I really don’t want to think about the future right now,” Brivio told Formula Passion:

“I am working for Trackhouse, and I want to try to see if I can help the team achieve the best possible results. Now, there’s Trackhouse. Let’s think about Trackhouse and then the future.”

Despite Brivio not wanting to speak about his switch to Honda, the Italian slid in some praise for Quartararo ahead of their expected union next season. Brivio believes Quartararo is very talented, and that “everyone” in the MotoGP paddock knows how good the Yamaha rider is.

Brivio added: “Quartararo? He’s a great rider, everyone knows that.”

Quartararo has struggled to regularly show what he is capable of offering so far in 2026 due to the limitations of Yamaha’s new V4 bike introduced this term. The 27-year-old earned his best results so far with P6 at Le Mans and P5 in Barcelona, but they are his only top 10s yet.

The Italian Grand Prix last Sunday even saw Quartararo fail to secure a point in a Grand Prix for the third time already this season, after only seven rounds. He came home down in P18 at Mugello, with a whopping deficit of 34.335 seconds as Marco Bezzecchi won with Aprilia.
