Marc Marquez has conceded that his best may be behind him now in MotoGP after more surgeries in 2026, but he intends to keep his career going.
The Ant of Cervera has had several injuries in the past few years, with his final years at Honda being a nightmare. Marquez pulled off one of the best comebacks in the sport with Ducati in 2025, but now, he is facing more setbacks.
His shoulder injury from 2025 was causing his nerve problems, and he had surgery already planned before his highside at Le Mans left him with a fractured foot. Marquez returned to action in Mugello, but doubts are still lurking about his performance.

The Ducati rider finished a respectable seventh at the Italian Grand Prix. Marquez was satisfied with his weekend, but he was finding it noticeably difficult.
Marquez was lacking physical ‘power’ during the race as he struggled with the changes of direction and the right-hand corners. He had been battling Pedro Acosta for fourth, but ended up slipping back to P7.
After the race, the 33-year-old admitted that he may not get back to his best, but he will try. He intends to have a long career and keep going in MotoGP.
He told MOW: “The fractures to my foot compared to my shoulder are nothing. If it had just been my foot, I could have already raced at Montmelò. It’s true that my foot isn’t 100%, but it’s not a limitation on the bike.

“For me, the important thing was not to have any numbness. I feel like my arm feels different; that’s the most important thing and the goal of the surgery.
“The goal is to reach 100% every day and see how far I can go. No one says I’ll go back to how I was before, but I’ll try. As I said, I’m ready to try, then we’ll see. I don’t want to give up without trying.
“If I’m here, it’s to advance my career. I want to give it a try, then we’ll see what my physical condition will be in the future. But I’m not here to fight for the title and score points, I’m here to have a longer career.”

How long does Marc Marquez have left in MotoGP?
Marquez has lost muscle from his recent injuries. The main thing for him is to rebuild that strength, and fortunately for him and Ducati, he had a smooth weekend in Mugello.
But eventually, he will be expected to deliver results, and many have cast doubt as to whether Marquez has a long-term future in MotoGP.

It is believed that Marquez has signed a new contract with Ducati for the next two years. But as this has not been announced yet, and given the rumours that the Spaniard only wanted a deal until 2027, there is speculation that his retirement is imminent.
Neil Hodgson has tipped Marquez to retire if he cannot win races in 2026. So far, he has not even finished on the podium in a Grand Prix, with just two Sprint wins to his name.
