Marco Bezzecchi secures his second MotoGP pole position of 2026 at the Italian Grand Prix, as Marc Marquez impressed on his return from injury.
After leading both sessions on the first day of practice at Mugello, Fabio Di Giannantonio continued his fine form on Saturday morning as he topped the timing sheets in FP2 yet again.
As Q1 got underway, Pedro Acosta immediately threw his name in the hat to advance into Q2. The KTM rider dropped into the 1:44s, followed by the Trackhouse duo of Raul Fernandez and Ai Ogura.
Fernandez ended the session with the benchmark lap time of a 1:44.538, with Acosta following his compatriot into the second shootout. Cal Crutchlow rounded out the grid with the slowest time out on track, and he will start both races from the back of the grid.
Jorge Martin smashes the top speed record at the Italian Grand Prix – Will this be beaten before the 2027 regulations kick in?
Francesco Bagnaia led the grid out for Q2, but it was Jorge Martin who set the pace after the first flying laps. The Aprilia rider chose to have Di Giannantonio as his marker, which proved to be a good decision as he topped Fernandez’s initial benchmark.
Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi then stamped his authority over the rest of the grid as he smashed the lap record with a 1:43.921. Marc Marquez was on pace to usurp him, until the physical nature of sector three hindered him.
The Italian’s record-setting lap saw him remain on pole at the chequered flag and will be joined by Fernandez and Martin on the front row for the Sprint and Grand Prix.
Marquez impressed as he took fourth place, alongside fellow Ducati riders Fermin Aldeguer and Bagnaia.
