Cal Crutchlow could be set to replace Johann Zarco at LCR for the Italian Grand Prix, depending on how he performs in a test at Misano.
LCR boss Lucio Cecchinello is keen to have both of his bikes on the grid at the Italian Grand Prix. Diogo Moreira is the team’s only fit full-time rider, after Zarco suffered a horrific crash in Catalunya.
The Frenchman is still waiting to have surgery on his left leg, with his comeback date unknown. LCR need a replacement for Mugello, and the team could give Crutchlow a sensational return to MotoGP.

LCR will bring in Cal Crutchlow to replace Johann Zarco at Mugello if he performs well in Misano test
According to a report from Motorsport Espana, Crutchlow will get the ‘green light’ to race for LCR at Mugello if he can perform well in a private test with the team.
The Brit will test the Honda RC213V at Misano, the home of the San Marino Grand Prix. There, LCR will decide on whether to hand the ride to Crutchlow at the Italian GP this weekend.
The 40-year-old spent six years with LCR from 2015 up until he retired from full-time racing in 2020. Crutchlow won his three MotoGP races with them before serving as a test and reserve rider for Yamaha, making sporadic appearances between 2021 and 2023.

He has not competed in a MotoGP race weekend since making a wildcard appearance at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix. Crutchlow’s sudden comeback highlights the lack of options Honda have for Mugello.
Aleix Espargaro is injured and still recovering from a huge accident in testing. Takaaki Nakagami is available, but according to the report, he is ‘fully focused’ on developing Honda’s 850cc bike for the 2027 season.
Many will be keeping an eye on Crutchlow’s progress at Misano. Should he be successful and replace Zarco at Mugello, it will be the first time in nearly three years that a British rider has raced on a MotoGP weekend.
