Marc Marquez is set to race for Ducati at the Italian Grand Prix, pending a final medical check-up, the team have confirmed.

The defending champion has been out of action since his violent highside in the Sprint race at Le Mans. Ducati confirmed that he would miss the French and Catalan GP as he recovered at home.

It was believed that Marquez was looking to return to the grid in Hungary and skip the Italian Grand Prix. However, his name was included on the entry list for the race at Mugello, and now, he is set to compete.

Marquez is set to race at Mugello alongside Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia, pending a final medical check, as per the official MotoGP X account.

The Spaniard has been recovering after undergoing two surgeries. He was already scheduled to have surgery after Barcelona, as Marquez was having trouble with a loose screw in his right arm, which was affecting his nerves on the GP26.

How do you expect Marc Marquez to fare if he returns at the Italian GP?

Marquez kept his injury a ‘secret’ from Ducati, but before he could tell them about his issues, he highsided at Le Mans and suffered a fracture to his foot.

Surgery was then absolutely necessary for the 33-year-old as he returned to Spain to fix his injuries. Having been out of action for the past two rounds, he is set to return to the field.

Whether he will get the green light to race is not currently clear, and how he will perform in Mugello if given the go-ahead will be the biggest talking point of the weekend. Marquez will be looking to get back to form and take the fight to Aprilia.

Michele Pirro will replace Alex Marquez at Gresini in Mugello

While one Marquez could be on the grid in Mugello, MotoGP will not see both of them, as Alex Marquez will miss the next two races following his horrific accident in Catalunya.

Gresini have confirmed that Ducati test rider, Michele Pirro, will stand in for the Spaniard this weekend at Mugello.

Pirro stepped in for Fermin Aldeguer in Thailand following the 21-year-old’s leg injury in pre-season.
