Fabio Di Giannantonio has won the Catalan Grand Prix after two horrifying accidents caused stoppages in Barcelona.
The VR46 rider beat Joan Mir and Fermin Aldeguer in a chaotic race that saw several accidents. His first race win of 2026 was marred by red flags and nasty crashes for his colleagues.
Fabio Di Giannantonio wins a chaotic Catalan Grand Prix! But what was the biggest surprise?
After taking pole position on Saturday, Pedro Acosta was searching for his maiden MotoGP victory, having finished second behind Alex Marquez in the Sprint race.
The pair were enjoying a strong battle with Raul Fernandez in the first half of the race, but a horror accident on lap 11 and another huge accident on the restart brought a dramatic halt to proceedings.

Fabio Di Giannantonio wins Catalan Grand Prix after two horror accidents bring out red flags
Acosta kept the lead on a dramatic opening lap, with Marquez and Jorge Martin having contact in the battle for P3 and Raul Fernandez moving to P2. LCR’s Johann Zarco then climbed to third as Martin and Marquez had further contact on lap 3.
Fernandez found his way into the lead on lap 5 and used the speed of his Aprilia to pull a gap. But Acosta did not back down on the KTM, using his braking strength to pass the Trackhouse rider into the lead on lap nine.
After a slow start, Marquez soon got back into the race and moved into second behind Acosta. But on lap 11, the leader’s KTM engine cut out, with the Gresini rider having no way of avoiding him. He slammed into Acosta and hit the wall in a sickening accident, collecting Fabio Di Giannantonio in the process.
Is Barcelona too dangerous for MotoGP?
The Catalan Grand Prix sees ANOTHER red flag as Bagnaia crashes with Marini and Zarco
The race was immediately red-flagged as Marquez was taken to the medical centre. After a lengthy stoppage and confirmation that Marquez was conscious, the race resumed at 1:53 pm, only for another major crash at turn one to bring out the second red flag.
Zarco, Francesco Bagnaia and Luca Marini all went down on the opening corner, with the Frenchman being taken to the medical centre. The race was restarted for a third time, and it again sparked chaos as Martin was taken out by Fernandez at turn five.
Joan Mir moved up to second and was right up behind Acosta in the 12-lap shootout for the win. The Honda rider lost P2 with five laps remaining to Di Giannantonio. Acosta defended all he could, but the VR46 rider took the lead, pulled a gap and clinched victory.
Mir and Fermin Aldeguer passed Acosta on the final lap to complete the podium. He was then taken out by Ai Ogura at the final corner, marking a cruel end to the KTM rider’s race.
