Joan Mir is reportedly set to sign with Gresini Racing for 2027 and 2028, putting an end to his four-year stint with Honda.

Mir, 28, has endured a tough start to the 2026 MotoGP campaign, scoring just eight points from the opening five races, 25 points adrift of Honda teammate Luca Marini, who is currently in 11th place.

The Spaniard, who won the world title in 2020 with Suzuki, has widely been tipped to move away as Honda are set to sign Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso ahead of 2027.

With only one satellite team in LCR, Honda are not in a position to offer Mir and Marini new deals. The Japanese manufacturer had wanted to lure Tech3 away from KTM, but that move never materialised.

Joan Mir set to leave Honda and sign with Gresini for 2027 and 2028

Now, it has been reported that Mir has decided to sign for Gresini, which is a satellite team of Ducati.

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Mir will sign with Gresini for 2027 and 2028.

Mir’s decision to sign for Gresini may have come as a surprise, with the report suggesting that his original plan was to sign for ‘an official team or go home’.

However, with Gresini having the ‘direct supervision and support’ of Ducati, Mir feels this is an opportunity for him to show he is much more capable than the performances he has been showing with Honda in recent times.

Speaking on Friday, Mir’s manager, Paco Sanchez, confirmed that Mir will not be a Honda rider in 2027.

As reported by Crash, Sanchez said: “Given the lack of news from HRC regarding his future, Joan decided in Jerez to leave Honda at the end of the year and asked me to look for a good project for him.

“We are making good progress, but we haven’t finalised any deal yet. We hope to do so as soon as possible, but for now, I can’t confirm anything else.

“The only thing that is certain is that Joan will not be a Honda rider in 2027.”

During the first practice session ahead of the Catalan Grand Prix, Mir finished in 16th place, with Marini in 13th.
