Davide Brivio’s expected move from Trackhouse to Honda could hand Joan Mir a crucial lifeline ahead of the 2027 MotoGP season.

On Saturday, it was reported that Brivio, who is currently the team principal of the Aprilia-backed Trackhouse, will be joining Honda in a ‘key consulting role’.

Upon joining the Japanese brand, Brivio is set to focus on Honda’s strategic vision and overall organisation, with current team principal Alberto Puig set to stay put.

It has been suggested that Honda view Brivio as the perfect person to take the team back to glory after a tough few years in the midfield.

Could Davide Brivio hand Joan Mir a lifeline at Honda?

One rider that could potentially benefit from Brivio’s expected arrival could be Mir, whose contract with Honda is set to expire at the end of the 2026 campaign.

With Fabio Quartararo set to join from Yamaha next season and Honda’s expected capture of David Alonso from the CFMoto Moto2 team, the situation looks bleak for Mir and Luca Marini.

However, with Brivio set to join Honda in a senior position, Mir could be handed a lifeline.

The pair previously worked together at Suzuki, where Mir won the 2020 MotoGP title ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Alex Rins.

In addition, Mir was previously linked with a move to Trackhouse after Brivio stated they were looking for a more experienced rider to replace Ai Ogura, who will be joining Yamaha for the 2027 season.

However, in order for Honda to give a seat to Mir for 2027, it could depend on whether they will be able to lure Tech3 away from KTM and join the Japanese brand as a new satellite team.

If that happens, Honda will be able to put Alonso in the Tech3 team and allow Mir to partner with Quartararo in the factory squad.

What did Joan Mir say about his Honda future?

Back in April, Mir claimed that he deserves a spot on the official Honda team and stated that he will be at the front if the bike is competitive.

As per Motorsport, Mir said: “I don’t think I’d deserve to race for any team other than the official Honda team.

“I’m not here to ask for anything. I think I’m a rider who can guarantee that, when the bike is working, I’ll be up front. That’s what we have to aim for.

“From here on out, as for the things I can’t control, we’ll have to see, but I think I’m giving more than enough reasons to have a good bike next year.”
