As Marc Marquez’s dominant era of MotoGP seems to be winding down, his future Ducati teammate, Pedro Acosta, could replace him as the face of the sport.

Marquez has been warned about Acosta entering his prime just as he joins Ducati next season. The veteran Spaniard will have to battle a fiery young rider next season.

Some believe that Acosta’s arrival could mark the end for Marquez being the top rider, not just at Ducati, but in MotoGP as a whole.

Acosta is also learning how to become a star in the same vein as Marc Marquez, as he looks to cement himself as the next great rider in MotoGP.

Perhaps this is why former rider Raul Jara believes Pedro Acosta is the successor to Marc Marquez’s role as the face of MotoGP.

Raul Jara backs Pedro Acosta to replace Marc Marquez as the face of MotoGP when he retires

Speaking in a conversation with Nico Abad, former MotoGP rider Raul Jara spoke about who could replace Marc Marquez as the face of MotoGP.

While hesitant to back him so early, Jara named Pedro Acosta as the rider he sees as Marquez’s likeliest successor once he retires from MotoGP.

“That’s why when Rossi retired, it was already known that Marc was his successor. He was going to define an era.

“But to this day, since he hasn’t retired yet, there is no clear reference point that he is going to walk away. There are many assumptions.

“But when you’re asking who the next face of MotoGP is, I’m betting on Pedro. Many things can happen. He might go to the wrong team. He might get injured. Who knows?”

Raul Jara expects more competitive MotoGP era without Marc Marquez

Speaking further during the interview, Jara noted that Marquez wouldn’t be replaced immediately, and there would be a similar gap of multiple winners like there was between Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi.

“Before Valentino, there was Doohan, right? So it marked an era. Because between Doohan and Valentino, there were several riders who won. Roberts, Criville, etc.

“Well, it’s the same thing here. It’s good that maybe the field is more competitive. But there isn’t a clear dominant figure, which sometimes can be better.”

There is no word on Marquez considering retirement as of yet. But fans believe Marquez is nearing retirement, given his struggles this season.

Marquez claims he has nothing to prove, which suggests he is at peace with his career, and could walk away when it’s time.
