MotoGP fans want Christian Horner nowhere near the sport amid CEO rumours

MotoGP fans are completely against Christian Horner getting involved in the sport amid rumours that he is on the shortlist for CEO.

The former Red Bull F1 team principal is looking for his next business venture after leaving the team in 2025. Recently, Horner attended the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez and visited Marc Marquez and Ducati in the garage before the event.

Naturally, this led to speculation that the 52-year-old would be looking to join the sport in some way. Many F1 figures are already investing, or are looking to invest, in MotoGP teams, with Guenther Steiner taking over Tech3 last year.

It was rumoured that Horner may be looking at Carmelo Ezpeleta’s role as CEO of Dorna, now MotoGP SEG. Now, it is said that Horner is on the ‘shortlist’ to become the sport’s CEO, much to the displeasure of several fans.

MotoGP fans do not want Christian Horner in the sport

Bernie Ecclestone recommended MotoGP to Horner after he left Red Bull, and his visit to Jerez has fuelled speculation that he could be looking for a way in. But many fans on Reddit pointed out that he does not know the sport, and they would rather have someone with experience.

“When he was interviewed by Jack Appleyard he said he hadn’t been/watched MotoGP in 20 years. I’d much prefer someone with actual passion as well as a savvy business mind running the series,” said one user.

Another agreed: “He doesn’t know enough about MotoGP to be qualified for the role. We don’t want MotoGP to become a retirement home for washed F1 dropouts.”

“I really hope the teams will oppose to this,” commented one fan, while another expressed frustration at the new owners, Liberty Media: “Liberty Media making moves to trash MotoGP if this happens.”

“I’d rather have someone that is passionate about and understand MotoGP from a holistic perspective,” said another user.

“Can he not. Let’s have people who actually know and care about MotoGP running a team, and not someone trying to stay relevant,” added another.

MotoGP fans vote ‘no’ for Christian Horner joining the sport

Recently, MotoGP News asked fans on TalkingPoints if they would like to see Horner in MotoGP in some capacity.

Currently, the results paint a telling picture, with the majority of users voting in favour of ‘no’. One fan commented saying: “NEVER…Stay away, you’re not welcome in MotoGP.”

Another agreed with the sentiments of those shared on Reddit, in that they would much prefer someone who has MotoGP experience.

They said: “Another w/MotoGP tech experience n deep pockets I’d prefer.” Whether Horner will join the sport is to be seen at this point, but it is clear that any move would not be a popular one.
