Marc Marquez’s wait for a Grand Prix podium in 2026 continues after he crashed out of the Spanish Grand Prix. It has left MotoGP fans wondering how many more hits his body can take.

After a month’s break, the Ducati rider was tipped to return to form at Jerez and end Aprilia’s dominance. Marquez felt he could not challenge Marco Bezzecchi coming into the weekend, but he quickly proved himself wrong with pole position and the Sprint win.

Marquez controversially won the Sprint after he crashed in the rain-soaked conditions and cut across the grass at turn 13 to switch to his wet race bike. MotoGP stewards opted not to punish the home hero and he kept his win, but he would not repeat it on Sunday.

Marc Marquez is out! A MASSIVE crash for the Ducati rider at the Spanish Grand Prix 😲 What does this mean for his 2026 title hopes?

Brother Alex Marquez displayed strong pace throughout the weekend and took the lead from the factory Ducati in the early stages. On lap two, Marc Marquez crashed heavily at turn 11 and suffered his second retirement of the season.

After the Spanish Grand Prix, Marquez is now 44 points behind Bezzecchi. His title chances have taken a severe dent, and another heavy crash has left fans wondering how long this can go on.

MotoGP fans question if Marc Marquez is closer to retirement after Spanish Grand Prix crash

Marquez told Ducati engineers to ‘stop talking about fitness’ at Jerez, but after another heavy accident, that is all that fans are talking about on Reddit.

Many are wondering how long Marquez can keep going like this as his body takes another hit: “That was a nasty one. Glad he’s well. Question is how long does he keep this up? His body will curse him in his later years,” said one fan.

“He might consider it if he continues to be troubled by the shoulder and this theme of him struggling for pace compared to Álex and Digi on the same bike continues. It’s not worth risking the body anymore when he’s not in shape enough to compete at his normal level,” echoed another.

One user said: “Very honestly, I think he really wanted this season to be his last, with one more championship win. And I think he was quite confident about that possibility. But I think he got frustrated very early on, with things not going smoothly. On top of that, Ducati not having improved much, where Aprilia did. And then that frustration just leads to mistakes.”

“I don’t even know what to say anymore. This puts him in a precarious position in terms of championship more importantly his body won’t endure many more of this. This season just doesn’t feel like his,” wrote another.

“It’s hard to get out of this cycle. The further he drops behind in the standings means he will have to push more in future races instead of settling and that increases the risk of crashes like this,” pointed out one fan.

“Feel bad for him and his hardcore fans, a year ago I was reading comments about how he would beat Rossi’s records, now the most common discussion is his potential retirement,” another said.

Marc Marquez could not understand Ducati’s race pace against ‘unbeatable’ Alex Marquez

Speaking after the race, via Motorsport Espana: Marquez explained what caused the crash at turn 11 as he admitted that his brother was not his rival at Jerez.

“Well, sometimes you crash, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and today we crashed. The important thing is that we enjoyed the Jerez weekend, I had a good time riding the bike; it’s a shame we only lasted a few laps today, but I’m fine. Tomorrow is Monday and life goes on.

“If there’s a crosswind, it affects everyone. It’s true that the front of my bike tucked in, and I didn’t even try to save it. At that point, if you’re glued to the bike in the gravel, well, you saw how the bike ended up…

“When I saw it tucking in, I simply positioned myself to get into the gravel properly. It’s a shame, because I couldn’t really understand our race pace either.

“Although I think Alex’s was different; he was unbeatable today. But we went out there mentally prepared to fight for third or fourth place; that’s what we were aiming for.”
