Marco Bezzecchi had to settle for second place at the Spanish Grand Prix after Alex Marquez managed to earn a massive win at Jerez.

Marquez’s win came at the back of Marc Marquez’s crash, as the younger brother managed to capitalise on the reigning world champion’s misfortunes on the day.

Despite Marc’s crash, Alex Marquez looked the quicker of the two, even managing to overtake the Ducati rider before his crash took him out of the race.

As for Marco Bezzecchi, the championship leader had to settle for second place on the day, not being able to overcome Marquez.

But after the race, Bezzecchi admitted he knew it was Alex Marquez’s day very early on, as he looked completely unstoppable.

Marco Bezzecchi knew Alex Marquez was going to win ‘for sure’ early in the Spanish Grand Prix

Speaking to TNT Sports after the Spanish Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi was asked about his thoughts on the race and the performance of Alex Marquez.

The Aprilia rider admitted it was a difficult weekend for the team, and Alex Marquez had shown him early in the race that it was his day.

“Very happy and satisfied from the day. It wasn’t easy to make a good race, especially with Alex being so strong like this. In fact, immediately, I saw that he was super quick, as I expected.

“This was the maximum that I could do. My feelings were good, but not the best. Happy to grab this second place…

“He was very quick, especially in the fastest flowing part, sector three, sector four. But overall, he was on point everywhere. Sector three, especially, he had very good lines, grip, drive, and traction.

“I saw immediately, when he passed me in turn 10, and I said, ‘For sure, he is going to win.’ In fact, he passed Marc pretty soon, Marc made the mistake, and I was behind him, not super close, but I could see him. He was riding in a perfect way. I tried to stay with him, but it was not possible.”

Marco Bezzecchi ‘looking forward’ to testing 2027 Aprilia bike

Speaking further in the interview, Bezzecchi looked ahead to Aprilia testing their 2027 850cc bike at Jerez, noting that the factory have been hard at work on getting the bike ready.

“We have many items to try. The factory has been working super tough. Their effort is amazing. We have to work a lot. I am really looking forward to ride tomorrow.

Massimo Rivola had previously stated that Aprilia were in no rush to test the bike compared to their other rivals, many of whom had brought their bikes to track previously.

For Bezzecchi, the test at Jerez will give him an idea of what improvements need to be made, as he eyes riding it officially next year as the defending MotoGP champion.
