Davide Brivio recalls how not winning a race was a ‘disaster’ when he used to work with Valentino Rossi.
The MotoGP paddock has become accustomed to big Parc Ferme celebrations for the riders who finish on the podiums in the Sprint Races or Grands Prix.
However, MotoGP team manager, Davide Brivio, has revealed that this is the difference between the ‘greatest riders’ in MotoGP and the normal riders.
During his career, Brivio has worked with the likes of Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Joan Mir, and Raul Fernandez across Yamaha, Suzuki, and Trackhouse.
However, Brivio has admitted that he finds himself ‘laughing’ when the Trackhouse riders he has worked with celebrate a third-place finish at a Grand Prix.

Davide Brivio says Valentino Rossi would not celebrate a third-place
Whilst appearing on the Gas It Out, Davide Brivio discussed the difference between the ‘greatest riders’ like Rossi and normal MotoGP riders.
The Italian recalled his time working with Rossi at Yamaha, and how not winning would be a ‘disaster’ compared to the celebrations for some riders when they finish in third place.
Brivio said, “Most of the riders, even now in MotoGP they have a great talent. But the talent is probably the starting point. Of course, if you don’t have a talent, okay, it’s difficult even to start, but then the talent is not enough.
“What I’ve seen is like hard work, motivation, never giving up, this type of thing. So this is great, I mean Valentino Rossi, or the greatest riders, will never let a win go away because, ‘Okay, I can finish second or I can finish third’.
“I remember with Valentino some Sunday nights after finishing second, it was like nobody was talking at the dinner, you know, it’s like a disaster. It was like, ‘We got beaten, how is it possible?’ You know this type of thing, but it was second position. Now, sometimes I laugh when we take the picture for P3 in the pit lane.
“You know, so that is the difference, the hard work, the motivation, but it’s the same in every sport.”

Davide Brivio recalls insulting celebrations at Yamaha in 2009
As previously mentioned, Brivio was the Yamaha team manager when Rossi and Lorenzo were teammates at the Japanese manufacturer between 2008 and 2010.
During their time as teammates Rossi and Lorenzo developed a deep rivalry, as they fought against each other for the MotoGP title and clashed on track on multiple occasions.
Brivio recalled a race when Rossi beat Lorenzo and Rossi’s side of the garage managed to insult Lorenzo’s from their over the top celebrations, that resulted in meetings to calm the tension between the two riders. However, he emphasised that he hopes the teammate rivalries continue to be a big thing in MotoGP.
Brivio said, “His garage celebrated, and Lorenzo’s team took it as an insult, thinking that the others were celebrating in a special way for having beaten Jorge. In reality, Rossi’s technicians would have done the same against any rider. Meetings followed to explain and clarify things. It was a big problem, but I hope it happens again.”
