Marc Marquez was questioned on who he believes will claim victory in the 2026 Moto2 World Championship, and was torn between two riders.

However, the lower classes remain more unpredictable with multiple riders in the Moto2 Championship capable of being crowned champion at the end of the year. There are 10 different race winners from the 2025 season remaining on the grid for 2026.

Marc Marquez has his say on who will win the Moto2 title

The nine-time MotoGP World Champion will be keeping a close eye on the Aspar Team in 2026, as he believes there will be a title fight between David Alonso and Daniel Holgado.

In 2025 the Colombian and Spaniard graduated from the Moto3 Championship into the Moto2 Championship after contending for the lightweight title in 2024.

During their debut seasons in Moto2, Holgado and Alonso both won races and became regular podium contenders in the latter stage of the season, setting themselves up in a good position to become title contenders in 2026.

When Marquez was asked about the Moto2 Champion by Simon Patterson, the factory Ducati rider could not decide between the two riders and predicted a ‘close’ battle between them.

Marquez said, “I’m between David Alonso and [Daniel] Holgado, close. Aspar Team!”

David Alonso attracting attention from MotoGP Legends

Although Marquez would not commit to Alonso claiming the title over his teammate Holgado, there have also been other MotoGP legends who have also seen Alonso’s potential.

Current KTM test rider, Dani Pedrosa, previously claimed during the MotoGP Hall of Fame launch in 2025 that he believes David Alonso could be in the MotoGP Hall of Fame one day.

Alonso was not the only Aspar rider that Pedrosa mentioned during the launch. He also discussed the Aspar Team Moto3 rider, Maximo Quiles, who has been labelled as the favourite for the 2026 title.
