An array of young riders have reached the rostrum during the MotoGP era since 2002, including Marc Marquez after the Spaniard secured a Grand Prix podium on his debut.

Marquez became the at-the-time youngest rider to earn a MotoGP Grand Prix podium since the premier class rebranded from the 500cc era, when he finished third on debut for Honda in the 2003 Qatar Grand Prix. The Cervera native rose from P6 on the grid for his first trophy.

Honda hero Marquez joined Yamaha icons Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi on the podium in the 2003 Qatar GP, after finishing 6.201 seconds behind his compatriot and 0.211s behind the Italian. It was one of only 13 occasions that the three riders shared a Grand Prix podium.

Lorenzo was once one of the youngest riders to get a Grand Prix podium in the MotoGP era, as well. The native of Mallorca got his first Grand Prix podium on his premier class debut for Yamaha with P2 in the 2008 Qatar GP after finishing 5.323s shy of Ducati icon Casey Stoner.

Acosta took his first MotoGP Grand Prix podium in his second premier class race after KTM placed the native of Mazarron in their satellite squad, Tech3, for his rookie season. The 2021 Moto3 and 2023 Moto2 title-winner finished P9 on his MotoGP debut in the 2024 Qatar GP.

Tech3 also saw Acosta go one better in just his third race on the MotoGP grid, as he secured his maiden premier class P2 finish in the 2024 Americas Grand Prix. Acosta finished the race only 1.728s shy of taking his first Grand Prix win, as well, as Maverick Vinales won for Aprilia.

The youngest riders to score a Sprint Race podium in the MotoGP era

Acosta became the youngest rider to get a MotoGP Sprint Race podium in round four of the 2024 campaign when he sealed P2 in the Sprint at that season’s Spanish Grand Prix. He split compatriots Jorge Martin and Dani Pedrosa in an all-Spanish Sprint rostrum at Jerez, as well.

KTM test rider Pedrosa was promoted into the Sprint podium positions at Jerez in 2024 after Yamaha’s French star Fabio Quartararo received an eight-second post-race penalty owing to low tyre pressures. The Nice native had initially finished 0.050s ahead of Pedrosa to get P3.
