What Jorge Martin was privately saying immediately after his ‘really bad’ 2025 pre-season MotoGP crash

Jorge Martin had the most disrupted racing season of his career so far during the 2025 MotoGP campaign.

It felt like he suffered plenty of bad luck all at the same time, as his MotoGP title defence was thwarted by multiple injuries.

Understandably, it took a bit of a mental toll on him, but Aprilia stuck by his side, despite indications that he wanted to leave the team.

Martin returned just in time for the season finale after suffering injuries from a fourth significant accident of the season.

What team will Jorge Martin ride for in the 2027 MotoGP season?

“After the first, then second, then third injury, I started to have a lot of doubts on not only my future, but also on myself, on a lot of different things. At that moment, I had to make a decision on my future, and that decision was either to try the Aprilia a few more races or activate this clause that we all know about it.

“From that point, I had to fight for what I thought was the best for me, trying to move on to another project. We started this fight, and I think I could have continued farther with this fight, but sometimes in life we have to take some decisions, and now the decision is to stay here in Aprilia for one more season.”

But, there is ‘something going on’ with Martin’s collarbone injury, according to Mat Oxley, who believes that it may be far worse than first presumed.

In any case, Honda have not ‘shut the door’ on Martin, whom they were linked with in the summer. His contract expires in 2026, and he’ll be a free agent on the MotoGP rider market.

Jorge Martin couldn’t believe that he was crashing in 2025 MotoGP pre-season training incident

Martin is most worried about returning to full fitness now that he has had a bit of time away from the track. Signing a new contract isn’t his main priority.

At the post-season test in Valencia, Martin just wanted to go home and couldn’t think about going fast. His concentration was on getting through unscathed.

Those four significant crashes in 2025 have left a mark on him. The one that arguably took his momentum away was the second, which ruled him out of the season-opener in Thailand.

While training to get back from a massive pre-season highside in Malaysia, the Spaniard went down with fewer than two hours to go before the end of his recovery. It had a devastating impact, as he told MotoGP’s YouTube channel.

“I don’t remember the crash, but in the moment I was crashing, my mind was already [going], ‘No way, no way, no way. This is not happening,'” he said.

‘I remember going to the hospital, moving the hand with like three broken bones, like, ‘Nah, it’s not that much. I can make it to Thailand,’ and then realising it was a really bad injury. I think the worst moment was telling Rivola that I had crashed because we were in contact with each other every day.”

Why did Jorge Martin force a comeback at the end of the 2025 MotoGP season

There was an element of risk to Martin’s comeback at the final race, but his hands were partially tied behind his back.

If he wanted to get a feel for the 2026 bike and avoid being even further behind teammate Marco Bezzecchi than he already is, he needed to participate in the final race of the season.

Aprilia have suffered from Martin’s absence, and he’s all too aware of that. He gave his all, but had to retire from Sunday’s Grand Prix in Valencia due to a lack of fitness.

He still did what he needed to do to be eligible for the test, but it was still a less-than-ideal situation. Now he can have a few more months of proper rest before getting back to racing again.
