Jorge Martin’s partner reveals the 2025 MotoGP moment that left him ‘crying so much’

Jorge Martin has been through more than any other MotoGP rider throughout 2025, and will be glad to see the back of the year.

Ever since he started working with Aprilia, he has faced multiple nightmares and battled back from numerous injuries.

It’s a testament to Martin’s strength that he has continued to plough on and refuses to give up when his body has taken such a beating.

It might have been disappointing for his MotoGP title defence to have been so disrupted, but he does have a strong team around him, and 2026 is a fresh start.

There is ‘something going on’ with Martin’s latest injury, after breaking his collarbone and having to sit on the sidelines for longer than one would expect.

Even then, he won’t compare himself to anyone else. Martin says Marc Marquez’s comeback was ‘completely different’ and doesn’t relate to his, which is a very fair view.

Jorge Martin’s partner admits he was ‘crying so much’ after Qatar Grand Prix crash

Angel Charte called a Martin crash ‘strange’ in Qatar, as the third incident of his season would turn out to be the most serious.

11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung, as a result of a fall during the Qatar Grand Prix, would leave him stranded and recovering in hospital for two weeks.

Unfortunately, he was hit by Fabio Di Giannantonio, and the Italian had nowhere to go. It was an incredibly alarming time, and the stewards opted against throwing a red flag.

Martin was ‘lucky’ in the crash, and it could have been worse. Speaking in a documentary on MotoGP’s YouTube channel, his partner, Maria Monfort Matutes, just revealed how he reacted in the hospital.

“I got into the room and I suddenly saw Jorge,” he said. “He saw me and he started crying so much. And he was like, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I love you, I love you, I love you.’ And then I just started crying so much.”

“He was suffering so much, he was crying so much, he was so scared. He always tells me that when I came into the room to see him for the first time, he was sure he was going to die.”

Why there are already encouraging signs for Jorge Martin in 2026

Based on the performance of his teammate this year, Martin should be fine when it comes to having the resources to be competitive in 2026.

The Aprilia bike improved significantly in the second half of the season and was able to challenge Ducati at virtually every circuit.

Given another winter of development, they could be in a really strong position come the Thailand Grand Prix. With that being said, it’s still ‘too early’ for Martin to sign another Aprilia deal.

Arguably, both sides need to see something from each other to make a continuation of their partnership worthwhile. If they don’t gel, it wouldn’t make sense to continue.
