Paul Trevathan followed Pedro Acosta from Tech3 to KTM in 2025, as the Spanish star graduated to the Austrian outfit’s factory team for only his second season in MotoGP.
KTM decided to place Acosta beside Trevathan for his rookie season with their satellite crew, Tech3, last term to draw on the Kiwi’s vast experience. Trevathan has been a part of the KTM MotoGP team since 2016, and had been the crew chief of Pol Espargaro and Miguel Oliveira.
Acosta enjoyed a strong rookie season in 2024 with five podiums from 19 Grand Prix entries. But KTM’s financial issues over the winter disrupted the start of this year, as the Munderfing squad lost their way, and Acosta’s ambitions to fight for the 2025 riders’ title fell away early.
Still, Acosta greatly impressed Trevathan with how he improved as a rider and as a human in the 2025 MotoGP season. The 21-year-old still finished the season as the top KTM rider, too, and he also secured fourth place in the standings with 307 points and another five podiums.

Paul Trevathan doubts people would believe how much Pedro Acosta pushes KTM ‘every session’
One of the biggest ways that Acosta impressed Trevathan in 2025 was how he utilised every opportunity to urge KTM to achieve more. The Kiwi does not feel people would believe how much energy the Spaniard used on trying to see KTM improve in and outside of race events.

“As a rider and as a human, I think he’s improved so much,” Trevathan has told Crash. “He understands the MotoGP bike a lot better. He understands perhaps what steps are needed to become a champion. He’s taking the maximum out of the bike.
“He’s pushing us like you wouldn’t believe in the garage every session [and] every day. In the weeks [without races] it’s constant, push, push, push.”
Trevathan added: “It’s unbelievable how hard he’s pushing himself and everyone else. And he’s not a guy who points the finger inside the team. He keeps his emotions in check really, really well inside the box.”
KTM must show Pedro Acosta that they can fight for Grand Prix wins and MotoGP titles
Revisiting MotoGP riders’ 2025 predictions
Acosta’s 2025 season started slowly owing to KTM’s financial problems over the winter, with the development of their RC16 put on hold at first. It took him until round 12 at Brno in July to score his first podiums of the season with P2 in the Sprint and P3 in the Czech Grand Prix.
It was Acosta’s first time at Brno, as MotoGP had not visited Czechia since 2020. Acosta also arrived at Brno eighth in the standings with 99 points from the first 11/22 rounds. The 2021 Moto3 and 2023 Moto2 champion scored 208 points over the final 11/22 rounds this term.
Works teammate Brad Binder was the next-best KTM rider to Acosta, with the South African finishing 2025 just 11th in the standings on 155 points with zero podiums. Also, Acosta beat Binder 22-0 in Grand Prix qualifying sessions through their first term as teammates this year.
Yet KTM have to show Acosta that Grand Prix wins and title fights will be possible with them in 2026. Acosta does not think he owes KTM anything ahead of entering the final year of his contract next term. The Spaniard claims he has already repaid their investments since 2021.
