Francesco Bagnaia will be glad to have the chance to reset over the winter after a torrid 2025 MotoGP season.
Many anticipated that the Italian would fight his Ducati teammate Marc Marquez for the title this year. However, it soon became apparent that the GP25 was not suited to Bagnaia’s riding style.
While Marquez dominated 2025 with 11 Grand Prix and 14 Sprint wins, it was an entirely different story on the other side of the garage. Bagnaia managed just two wins all year and finished fifth in the standings, 257 points behind his teammate.
Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said third would be ‘totally acceptable’ for Bagnaia’s season, but he ended up finishing 65 points away from that position. He constantly complained about a lack of feeling from the bike, creating a baffling situation within the team.

Luigi Dall’Igna issues final verdict on Francesco Bagnaia in 2025 as he ‘failed’ to score enough points
Luigi Dall’Igna admitted ‘everyone’ was losing patience with Bagnaia as Ducati tried to improve his feeling. The team introduced GP24 parts to his bike at Motegi, which ultimately led to victory, only for him to retire from the final five races of the season.
His lack of points, especially in ‘non-optimal situations’, is why Dall’Igna says Bagnaia ‘failed’ in 2025, as he assessed his 2025 season on his official LinkedIn account.
He wrote: “The same official Team that, instead, suffered for Pecco to whom luck spared nothing, it must be said. Especially in the final part of the championship, he failed to collect as much as he could have had, even in non-optimal situations.
“Surely things had to unfold differently, but if one adds ill luck to the mix, everything becomes a hell of a lot more difficult, for Team and rider alike.
“To draw valuable lessons, I am convinced that such situations must be absorbed as if they were antibodies, in order to draw from them even more determination to move on and return to one’s former self.
“In other words, a lesson to be learned: after all, in 2026 we will inevitably encounter major unknowns to be dealt with, so we might as well treasure what has happened in our recent past.”

Francesco Bagnaia is at risk of losing his seat at Ducati in 2027
Throughout 2025, Ducati reiterated their commitment to the Italian and that they would continue to help him. However, Dall’Igna says he must rebuild trust with Bagnaia – the consequences of this could be damaging.
With his contract expiring in 2026, the 28-year-old could find himself fighting for his future at Ducati. Bagnaia has stated that he wants to stay at the Borgo Panigale outfit, but if things do not improve, other riders are waiting to replace him.
Francesco Bagnaia on his MotoGP future
Fermin Aldeguer is likely to join Ducati if he performs well at Gresini in 2026. It puts the pressure on Bagnaia to find results next season and get a better feeling on the new Desmosedici.
Bagnaia was a lot more confident on the GP26 after testing it at Valencia. It is a good foundation for next year, but the results must come on track.
