Marco Bezzecchi took his fourth pole position of the 2025 MotoGP season, with Pedro Acosta and Fabio Quartararo rounding out the front row of the grid during qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao.
Bezzecchi continued his form over a single-lap to beat his rivals to the coveted spot at the front of the pack.
Acosta procued his best qualifying performance of the season to start alongside the Aprilia rider. Still on the hunt for his first Grand Prix victory, the young Spaniard has set himself up perfectly for an shot at glory in Sunday’s race.
Quartararo set the early benchmark in the first laps of Q2. The Frenchman benefited from the extra running in Q1 and after setting the fastest time in the initial qualifying session.
Alex Marquez crashed out during the closing stages of the session, effectively ending his hopes of beating the 2025 title-winner, Marc Marquez, to the title of being the best qualifier of the season.
All eyes were on Nicolo Bulega during his debut in a MotoGP qualifying session after the Italian rider was chosen as the man to replace the injury-stricken Marquez.
The Ducati World Superbikes star was unable to make it out of Q1 and will start the Sprint and Grand Prix from 18th on the grid.
