Nicolo Bulega isn’t the only World Superbikes star in MotoGP action this weekend. While he makes his debut for Ducati at the Portuguese Grand Prix, Toprak Razgatlioglu tests Yamaha’s bike.
Bulega is deputising for Marc Marquez after the world champion was ruled out until the end of the season. The Ducati rider returns to Grand Prix racing four years after leaving Moto2.
In preparation for Portimao, Bulega tested Ducati’s MotoGP bike at Jerez. He will take on a support role next year alongside his WSBK duties.
Razgatlioglu, the rider who beat him to this year’s world championship, has fully committed to MotoGP by joining Pramac. He will test for Yamaha at Aragon on Sunday and Monday.
Nicolo Bulega warns Toprak Razgatlioglu about reduced front tyre feedback in MotoGP
As quoted by AS, Bulega warned Razgatlioglu that he would have to ‘adapt a lot’ in 2026. The Turkish star last rode the Yamaha M1 in 2023 and may sample their brand-new V4 engine this weekend.
Razgatlioglu’s ‘incredible’ strength on the brakes may be compromised by the Michelin tyres, which don’t give as much ‘feedback’ as the Pirellis. Thus, the 29-year-old will have to alter his riding style.
Luigi Dall’Igna is surprised by the timing of Razgatlioglu’s move; Pirelli are replacing Michelin in 2027 and, with the regulations changing too, it appeared a more natural juncture.
“I think he’s a good kid and a great talent,” said Bulega. “I think he’ll need to adapt a lot next year. He’s incredible under braking, but normally in SBK the Pirelli front tyre is amazing and gives you great feedback, even at maximum lean.
“In MotoGP he’ll have to ride a bit differently. He has incredible talent and can adapt very well.”
How does Toprak Razgatlioglu think Nicolo Bulega will do on his MotoGP debut?
Razgatlioglu’s Yamaha team are currently slowest out of the five manufacturers, but he’s not concerned. He’s trying to manage expectations for 2026 anyway.
Indeed, Razgatlioglu doubts he’ll achieve anything ‘special’ until his second year. He could end up renewing his rivalry with Bulega in a different series.
Looking ahead to the Italian’s Portimao outing, Razgatlioglu thinks Bulega can finish in the top 10. That would be a magnificent result given that experienced test rider Michele Pirro has placed 18th and 17th in his two races.
