Francesco Bagnaia took the chequered flag in Malaysia for his second Sprint race victory of the season, ahead of Alex Marquez, who secured second place in the 2025 MotoGP riders’ standings.
Bagnaia retained the lead at the start of the race and quickly stretched out a gap over Marquez at the front of the pack.
The two Ducati riders finished the race in the same positions they had when the lights dropped, with Marquez’s teammate Fermin Aldeguer joining them on the podium for his fourth top-three finish of the season in the shorter format races.
The 2025 Rookie of the Year winner was later slapped with an eight-second penalty due to a tyre pressure infringement, which saw him drop down the order to seventh place.
The Murcian battled against his fierce rival, Pedro Acosta, for the final spot on the Sprint podium. The KTM rider ended up taking the flag in fourth, ahead of Franco Morbidelli, who rounded out the top five finishers.
