Francesco Bagnaia could be forgiven for wanting to give up on what has been a torrid 2025 MotoGP campaign.

He’s on course to achieve his worst finish to a season since he joined the factory Ducati team, since dropping out of the top three in the riders’ standings last weekend. Bagnaia has tried just about everything in the book, but it’s hard to see what comes next.

With just three MotoGP races left to go this campaign before the post-season test at Valencia, the Italian can start looking forward to a fresh opportunity. Some of the expectation will be removed from his shoulders for 2026, but the caveat to that is that there will be more pressure to save his ride.

Even though he remains under contract, Bagnaia has been told to leave Ducati and chase a fresh start with another team. Already, Ducati are chasing Bagnaia’s replacement, and with the new regulations approaching, it might not be long before he is seen in new colours.

Francesco Bagnaia refused to discuss new issue with Ducati’s shaking bike

Bagnaia faced a complicated problem before crashing at the Australian Grand Prix. The weekend overall marked his third failure to score in the last four events. It’s the sort of form where a drastic change is going to be around the corner somewhere.

Although Fermin Aldeguer agrees with Bagnaia’s complaints, the Spaniard has still been able to maintain a competitive level of performance. In Phillip Island, a new issue hit Ducati, and it gathered quite a reach on social media.

Journalist Simon Patterson posted a video on X, which achieved over 1,000 likes and 100,000 impressions, showing Bagnaia’s bike shaking as it went down a straight. From the outside, it looked like an almost uncontrollable issue.

Patterson mentioned after the weekend in The Race’s Podcast that he wouldn’t even discuss the matter after it happened. It’s a move which was out of character for the 28-year-old.

“The instability, whenever I asked him about, he wouldn’t even engage on it,” he said. “He was just like ‘Yeah, I’m not talking about this, next question,’ which is very unlike Pecco.”

Bagnaia’s dominant weekend at Motegi just a few weeks ago proves exactly why he still has reason to be optimistic.

He dominated that weekend, taking a maximum 37-point haul while teammate Marc Marquez was on track.

For the first time this season, he beat him to the chequered flag on even ground, and it felt like he had officially made his comeback.

Seven days later, Ducati came crashing back down to earth, as he had a woeful weekend in Indonesia, and Marquez got hurt.

If he was able to produce such a feat once, it’s definitely something that he will be able to do again. Although it’s difficult, he just has to keep faith and confidence in himself.
