Round 19 of the 2025 MotoGP calendar will get underway this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix. Here’s everything you need to know, including full timings and how to watch.

Marc Marquez is out of this weekend’s race at the Phillip Island Circuit after undergoing shoulder surgery following a heavy crash last time out in Indonesia.

The 2025 champion will be replaced by Ducati test rider Michele Pirro, although it has not yet been revealed how long the Italian will take the seat.

Pol Espargaro will also step into his reserve role in Australia, replacing the injured Maverick Vinales at Red Bull KTM Tech3. The Spanish rider suffered a shoulder injury during qualifying for the German Grand Prix and withdrew from the last race in Indonesia before the team announced he would be replaced this weekend, whilst he focused on recovering.

Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix weekend, it was announced that Diogo Moreira will join LCR Honda for the 2026 season, completing next year’s grid.

The young Brazilian will replace Somkiat Chantra, who made the step up to MotoGP this year. Chantra has had a difficult season, with only four point-scoring finishes, and has also missed several races due to a knee injury.

When is the 2025 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix?

The MotoGP Australian Grand Prix will take place between the 17th and 19th of October 2025. The main race will take place at 2pm track time (4am BST) on Sunday 19th October and will last 27 laps.

The Australian sprint race will start at 3pm track time (5am BST) on Saturday 18th October, and will be 13 laps.

How to watch the 2025 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix

The full 2025 MotoGP season is available to watch on TNT Sports in the UK. A subscription to the streaming service, through Discovery+ costs £30.99 a month and gives viewers access to four live TV channels and a number of other streamed live sports.

The 2025 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix will be live on TNT Sports 2 from 11:30pm on Saturday night , with post-race coverage running until 6:15am. With a subscription to TNT Sports, viewers can also watch the race live on their mobile, tablet or console devices.

MotoGP can also be viewed on its own streaming service, MotoGP Videopass. The subscription costs £25.92 a month and gives viewers the chance to watch races live and on demand.

Where is the 2025 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix being held?

The 2025 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix is held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, which is located near Ventnor on Phillip Island, south of Melbourne.

The 4.448 km (2.764 mi) track first hosted a motorcycle grand prix in 1989, although it briefly moved to Eastern Creek International Raceway between 1991 and 1996 due to an advertising issue between the local Victoria government and the tobacco industry that sponsored several teams on the grid.

The Australian Grand Prix returned to Phillip Island in 1997, where it has remained a staple feature on the MotoGP calendar.

What happened at the 2024 MotoGP Australian Grand Prix?

Marc Marquez took his third win of the season at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix after a battle with championship leader Jorge Martin the last half of the race.

Martin started from pole position with the Gresini rider sat in second place behind him. With four laps remaining, an attempt to defend from Marquez at Turn 4 saw Martin run wide, allowing the Spaniard to pass him for the lead.

The Pramac rider was able to fight for the lead again along the main straight, but Marquez retaliated with another lunge at the Turn 4 hairpin, which saw him then retain the front position until the end of the grand prix.

Marquez had initially plummeted down the field at the start of the grand prix, after suffering wheelspin caused by his own visor tear off. The incident saw him drop to 13th before regaining positions in the opening few laps.

Francesco Bagnaia, who was locked in a tight fight for the championship against Martin, lost touch with the leaders, finishing 10 seconds behind Martin when he crossed the line in third.

What happened at the 2024 Moto2 and Moto3 Australian Grand Prix races?

Fermin Aldeguer claimed an impressive victory at the 2024 Moto2 Australian Grand Prix after a dramatic battle with Aron Canet. The pair had been swapping the lead of the race since the beginning, but tensions rose in the last lap.

The pair made contact in Turn 10, with both riders so close that Aldeguer’s front tyre was touching Canet’s knee round the corner, with the Boscoscuro taking the lead on the exit.

Rookie Senna Agius took the final podium position after qualifying 12th for the race. A strong start from the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP rider saw him quickly make his way to fourth position, before taking third place after Alonzo Lopez crashed at Turn 4.

David Alonso won the 2024 Moto3 Australian Grand Prix after starting from tenth on the grid. The 2024 Moto3 champion made quick work of the tight-knit pack, before taking the lead of the race with four laps remaining.

The Spaniard dominated the closing stages, extending his lead to 2.936 seconds when he took the chequered flag. The win was his eleventh of the 2024 season, matching Valentino Rossi’s lightweight class record, which he later broke with a further three race wins.

Four riders fought for the remaining podium positions, with Daniel Holgado crossing the line in second, despite starting from 14th. A difficult start for the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider saw him drop down to 18th by the end of lap one, but with the tight pack he made quick work to claim the podium position.

Adrian Fernandez took the final podium position after leading the majority of the race, after polesitter Ivan Ortola was collected in a crash between Collin Veijer and Angel Piqueras.
