‘Pushy’ rider told he doesn’t deserve another year in MotoGP after Mandalika race, ‘should be faster’

The Indonesian Grand Prix was about as chaotic and attritional as a MotoGP race can get, as a new winner was crowned and the championship leader suffered an injury.

Marc Marquez could be out for the season after rolling through the gravel at high speed, prompted by a poor move from Marco Bezzecchi, which sparked a collision. It means that having the MotoGP title wrapped up in Japan is now even more of a relief.

Other riders impressed at the Indonesian Grand Prix, such as Fermin Aldeguer, who claimed a maiden victory. Raul Fernandez also stepped onto a premier class podium for the first time in his career following Saturday’s sprint race.

It will be incredibly hard for the Australian Grand Prix to follow in the Mandalika races’ footsteps, but without Marquez in contention, the race should be thrilling. Multiple riders will sense an opportunity to score their first win or podium of the year.

Raul Fernandez told he doesn’t deserve another year in MotoGP after being ‘not fast enough’

Sitting 12th in the riders’ standings, Trackhouse rider Fernandez was one of the stories of the weekend in Mandalika. He had an opportunity to secure a double podium, but blew it with a chaotic move on Luca Marini towards the end of the race.

Fernandez received a ‘clear’ warning from his team earlier in the campaign, and his results improved after. Now, he is being challenged further, and Peter Bom doesn’t believe that he deserves another season in MotoGP, and wasn’t quick enough in Indonesia.

“Raul Fernandez, that’s the guy I’m going to really roast here,” said the Journalist. “Poor Marini, because he did everything correct, just everything correct, and the guy who did everything wrong is Raul Fernandez. He doesn’t deserve another year in MotoGP.

“This is your fourth year. You find yourself in a situation that you’re on the best bike on the grid, there’s only two of them left. The other bike is four-tenths faster in qualifying, you’re on the same bike, you’re on the front row. His start was good, and then he is pushy in the first corner.

“Confusing everybody in turn two and turn three, so everybody is queuing up left and right, because he’s just doing everything wrong. Then in the race, first of all, he’s not fast enough. You should be faster on the Aprilia when you’re already four years in MotoGP.

“Then he does only two actions, that he went for a place, two times it goes completely to s—, so he’s losing places, and the guy he overtakes loses 10,000 places, and everybody behind him is just laughing their a—- off and taking it.”

How has Raul Fernandez performed during the 2025 MotoGP season?

In his last 13 races, Fernandez has 12 top-12 finishes and has improved just as quickly as the Aprilia bike has in 2025.

He’s under contract until the end of 2026, and if Trackhouse can inherit a developed Aprilia over the winter, he could be in contention for more trophies.

Encouraging signs are there, and with another year of experience under his belt, better things could be on the horizon.

Conversely, failing could mark the end of his MotoGP career. Rookie teammate Ai Ogura has shown that he could be a force to be reckoned with in the coming seasons and a potential team leader.
