Gresini boss Michele Masini shares why he’s ‘really angry’ with the coverage of Alex Marquez

Alex Marquez may be about to watch his brother achieve a monumental ninth championship at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix.

All Marc needs to do is outscore the Gresini rider by three points across the event. Even though the fate is practically sealed already, there is still a lot for the younger Marquez to be fighting for across the rest of the MotoGP season.

With a gap of 93 points over Francesco Bagnaia in third, it’s entirely possible that he wraps up the runner-up spot behind Marc in the month of October. At times since the summer break, Alex has been inconsistent, but his underlying pace remains strong.

Marquez will wish he’d never accepted a factory Ducati bike for 2026 after realising that not many people have expressed that much interest in it. Teammate Fermin Aldeguer says Marquez deserves a factory bike after watching what he has done in 2025. His pace has ascended out of nowhere.

Michele Masini is ‘really angry’ with the coverage of Alex Marquez’s 2025 MotoGP season

Marquez has highlighted an ‘out of control’ Ducati situation and thinks that it’s tough for the team’s boss, Davide Tardozzi, to reward him for his performances. Contracts can be complex and take time to work through.

With six races left to go, Alex will hope that he can add to his tally of nine podiums a few more times before the chequered flag comes out in Valencia. Nobody will be able to take anything away from his results in 2025, even if he has been a bit clumsy at times.

Gresini Sporting Director Michele Masini has told the Paddock Pass Podcast that he is ‘really angry’ with the coverage of his rider, and believes that he deserves more merit from everyone.

“If the championship will be finished tomorrow, I will be so proud of Alex because I become really angry, because Alex is an underrated rider for the world, and [he] is not anymore the brother of [Marc].

“He’s Alex Marquez, he’s two-time world champion, he’s winning MotoGP races and still made a really great championship.”

How Alex Marquez can achieve one special feat for Gresini in 2025

Currently, Marquez sits on an astounding tally of 330 points with seven races of the campaign to go. His brother, Marc, scored 392 last season as his teammate.

It marked the highest tally ever achieved by a Gresini rider, but it’s virtually guaranteed that it will be beaten once more over the next seven races.

Getting to 500 might even be possible with a strong run of form, but it would require some assistance from his brother along the way.

Already, he has more podiums in a season than he has ever achieved, and now Alex must raise the bar as high as possible to give himself a strong benchmark to aim for in 2026.
