Alex Marquez knows Francesco Bagnaia’s real problem after being hit by Marc Marquez ‘tsunami’

Francesco Bagnaia was hoping to battle Marc Marquez for the 2025 MotoGP title after he joined him at Ducati. But instead, the Italian has been struggling to beat his younger brother Alex Marquez.

The Desmosedici GP25 has proved to be a difficult bike for the two-time MotoGP champion to handle. Constantly complaining about a lack of feeling, Bagnaia has won just one race compared to Marc Marquez’s 25 wins, including Sprints.

Bagnaia has concluded that he does not suit the GP25 as he sits third in the standings, almost 300 points behind Marquez. Brother Alex Marquez splits the Ducati riders in second.

The Gresini rider is enjoying his best MotoGP season to date on the GP24, which Bagnaia used to win 11 races last year. With two victories to his name, he sits 93 points ahead of the Italian, with Marquez set to ride a factory Ducati bike in 2026 as a reward for his performances.

Bagnaia’s gap to Marc Marquez could widen further next year as the GP26 will be more tailored to his teammate. The 28-year-old will be desperate to see improvements from the new bike, and Alex Marquez knows what his problem is.

Alex Marquez says Francesco Bagnaia needs to find the sensations on the bike after being hit by Marc Marquez ‘tsunami’

Speaking via Chiringuito Inside, the Gresini rider says that Bagnaia’s mentality has never been a problem since he was hit by the ‘tsunami’ of Marc Marquez. He says that the Italian needs to find the ‘sensations’ on his bike to go fast again.

“I had him as a friend when we were little and he was a bit like that. Pecco and I already know each other,” he explained. “So, when he doesn’t have the best sensations, he’s not a rider who gets the most out of a bike.

“Well, it’s going to be a question of, maybe not this year, maybe next year, or maybe from one race to the next, you find your groove and go fast again.”

Asked if Bagnaia has a strong mentality, Alex Marquez replied: “I think so. Yes. Pecco has always been strong. I mean, he’s a guy who has his s— together.”

He added: “It’s a shock, I think, when you’re in a box where you’ve been the protagonist for so many years. Of course, a tsunami like Marc hits because, in the end, everything that comes with Marc in the box.

“All the pressure there is because you’re at the highest level. And that’s where you have to be well prepared to face it well. But I don’t think that’s the problem. In the end, it’s a matter of him finding the sensations and going fast again.”

Francesco Bagnaia risks losing third place in the 2025 standings

With six races remaining, Bagnaia will be hoping for the season to end as quickly as possible. But he faces huge pressure to hold onto P3 in the standings as Marco Bezzecchi sits just eight points behind him.

Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta have scored triple the number of the Ducati rider’s podiums in the last seven races. If he were to lose P3, Bagnaia could be set for a pay cut.

Ducati is losing patience with Bagnaia to find results. The Borgo Panigale have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to fix his problems with the bike, but little has improved.

Valentino Rossi’s ex-coach says Bagnaia must ‘find positivity’ to help his woes. Being a graduate from the MotoGP’s legend academy, his entourage is still around to offer guidance to the two-time champion.
