Francesco Bagnaia could not hide the Ducati star’s frustration after his sorry result in the 2025 MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix last Sunday, as the Italian demanded answers.
The 28-year-old took another punch to the gut at the Red Bull Ring during what continues to be a season to forget. Bagnaia now trails his factory Ducati teammate Marc Marquez by 197 points in the championship and also trails Alex Marquez on a year-old GP24 at Gresini by 55.
Marc Marquez has blown Bagnaia out of the water since joining the Turin native at Ducati in the 2025 MotoGP season. The Spaniard now boasts nine Grand Prix and 12 Sprint wins from 13 rounds, ahead of the first Hungarian Grand Prix since 1992 at Balaton Park this weekend.
Bagnaia set the pace during Ducati’s test at Balaton Park earlier this month, as he marginally edged Marquez’s fastest lap time. Yet while the two-time riders’ champion set the pace on a Panigale road bike, he has not matched the six-time champion aboard a Desmosedici GP25.

Marquez even won last Sunday’s Austrian GP with a 12.486-second lead over Bagnaia down in only P8. The Spaniard also won the Sprint at the Red Bull Ring, while the Italian retired at mid-race distance after dropping down the order due to suspected issues with his rear tyre.

His sorry showing last Sunday, in particular, left Bagnaia claiming: “I hope Ducati can explain this to me, because I’m running out of patience.” Ducati share Bagnaia’s frustrations, as well, and the Borgo Panigale crew made it clear to him during their post-race debrief on Monday.
“Afterwards, I spoke calmly with the team, as I do on Mondays after every Grand Prix, and I sorted it out,” Bagnaia affirmed ahead of the Hungarian GP, via quotes by Motorsport.com.
“No one was offended, and they acknowledged that it’s not easy for them either [and] that they’re doing their best to give me a bike I feel comfortable on and can push.”

It was reported in Italy following the Austrian GP that Bagnaia’s relationship with Ducati now risks reaching the point of no return after his public display of frustration. But their post-race debrief on Monday has, seemingly, eased some of the tension that built at the Red Bull Ring.
The 2025 season has been a testing term for both camps, though, with claims emerging this June that Ducati were ‘running out of patience’ with Bagnaia after saying the GP25 does not work. The Italian has regularly indicated that Ducati’s 2025 bike is the cause of his problems.
Casey Stoner fears Ducati will look to replace Bagnaia due to his problems this year, as well, despite the Italian having a contract for the 2026 season. Bagnaia sits third in the standings and 197 points from Marquez, having won once and taken seven podiums in 13 Grands Prix.
