Marc Marquez exposed ‘worrying’ Ducati weakness in Marco Bezzecchi battle at Austrian Grand Prix

Marc Marquez picked up where he left off before the summer break with another dominant performance at the Austrian Grand Prix.

For the sixth consecutive weekend, he won two races in a row on a Ducati bike, which seems to harmonise with every track it touches.

It’s inevitable that Marquez will win a seventh MotoGP title this year, and it has now become a case of how soon he can do so.

It would already take his brother nearly four races to catch him, and that’s if Marc were to retire from every race, with Alex winning them all.

Ducati’s crew chief just perfectly summed up Marquez and his start to 2025 by calling the current version of him ‘complete’.

Just a few days ago, Marquez revealed his shocking MotoGP wage while racing for Gresini last year. Leaving Honda saw him take a 100% pay cut.

Marc Marquez exposed a ‘worrying’ Ducati weakness at the Austrian Grand Prix

For the majority of the Austrian Grand Prix, Marquez was content to sit back and allow Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi to lead the race.

Marquez says it will be ‘hard to understand’ at Ducati when he can no longer win, but on Sunday, he was playing cat and mouse with his opponents.

According to Peter Bom, the Spaniard displayed a ‘worrying’ Ducati weakness, that forced him to wait before overtaking Bezzecchi later in the race.

“At that moment, these guys get away with everything. Because everything is so sweetly organised for them technically, it’s when the tyres drop and when situations change, he’s the more creative rider,” he said.

“The more complete rider and can make the difference. But it’s a bit of a worrying thing that a guy like Marc, who is so much better than everybody else, has to really wait until the tyres drop to make a move.”

Who is most likely to stop Marc Marquez from winning for the rest of the 2025 MotoGP season?

While it currently looks like nobody can beat Marquez, there have been some positive signs from some of his rivals.

Particularly Aprilia, who look like they have improved significantly since bringing some upgrades to their bike a few races ago.

So much so, it was a factor in helping them to retain the services of reigning champion Jorge Martin for another season, despite some discomfort.

If anyone is to win a race, it’s most likely to be the last team that won one other than Ducati. Aprilia could be a real danger at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
