Casey Stoner says Marc Marquez has done something that he ‘really didn’t foresee’ with Ducati in 2025

Marc Marquez is on one of the most dominant runs of form in MotoGP history with Ducati in 2025.

The Spaniard has claimed victory in both the sprint race and Grand Prix at each of the last six events, and is working almost perfectly in harmony with Ducati’s GP25 machine.

His lead at the top of the MotoGP standings already feels too large for any of his rivals to peg back, with nearly half of the season to go.

Marquez is set to break multiple records on his way to a special seventh premier class title, including becoming the oldest champion in history.

Marquez hatched an unsuccessful plan with his engineers at the Austrian Grand Prix to try and find more time in qualifying, but ended up making a mistake.

Despite a difficult season, Francesco Bagnaia will ‘benefit’ from Marquez and the improvements he will bring to Ducati’s bike. They should be in a better position for 2026.

Casey Stoner says he ‘didn’t foresee’ Marc Marquez’s domination with Ducati in 2025

Marquez is now taking ‘special satisfaction’ from preventing teammate Bagnaia from winning on his very best tracks.

At this stage in the season, it looks pretty certain that the championship leader will seal the title with at least four events to spare.

Winning four more races in a row would see him match his incredible consecutive victories record from 2014 (10), and it may be a record that is never broken.

Ex-rival Casey Stoner told TNT Sports ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix that even he hadn’t expected this level of performance from the Ducati rider.

“It’s clearly just a domination of Ducati and Marc Marquez. I don’t know if anybody could have predicted what was going on. Everybody said it at the start of the season, knew Marc was going to be good,” he said.

“But quite this good, I don’t think we foresaw. We already had him on the Ducati last year. He obviously was getting up and going a little bit more. Getting to grips with his shoulder still. I really didn’t foresee the amount of domination he’s had so far this year.”

Why Marc Marquez’s MotoGP rivals will be fearful of him heading into the 2026 MotoGP season

Marquez’s ‘spectacular’ form has affected Bagnaia, and with minimal changes ahead of the 2026 season, there’s no reason why the pecking order will change any time soon.

If anything, his rivals will fear that his form continues. The only manufacturer that looks capable of challenging him right now is Aprilia.

For Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, recent upgrades have been encouraging. For everyone else, winning must feel like it’s as far away as it has ever been.

After years of toil, Marquez won’t mind being on the top step so often, especially after it looked like his career could easily be over back in 2020.
