Marco Bezzecchi ended a two-year winless streak in style at the British Grand Prix and received some timely luck along the way.
He pounced on the retirement of Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo to win at Silverstone, handing his Aprilia team a massive boost just when they needed it.
Bezzecchi has struggled throughout much of 2025, battling the duties of being the number one rider and responsible for development amid Jorge Martin’s absence.
He has lifted himself to seventh in the MotoGP standings after round seven, but he’ll be aiming to push on even further after earning his first victory away from Ducati.
Bezzecchi used a ‘trick’ at the British Grand Prix, which helped him to remain calm and win after inheriting the lead with a handful of laps to go.
If teammate Martin departs, Bezzecchi may have an Aprilia mess he can’t fix, but for now, he must enjoy the taste of victory again while it lasts.

Marco Bezzecchi told Aleix Espargaro that Aprilia’s bike is ‘incredible’ at Silverstone
It’s easy to forget that Bezzecchi is also in his first season with the Italian manufacturer too after switching from a Ducati bike over the winter.
It’s not the easiest of adjustments, but he will have gained a lot of confidence from reaching the top step before being a third of the way through the season.
Speaking after the race, the man he replaced, Aleix Espargaro, revealed what he told him privately about Aprilia’s bike before the race.
“Yes, very happy, I’m very happy for Aprilia,” he told Motorsport Italia. “Just when they were suffering, both them and Marco, also because of Jorge’s injury… And I’m really happy. This track had to be suitable for them, this bike is fantastic to ride and Marco did a great race.
“I spoke to Marco and he said: ‘It’s incredible how this bike goes here, what fun’. Today was a great race. Even if, for me, Fabio Quartararo deserved to win, honestly. But I’m very happy for the whole Aprilia team.”
Why Aprilia are relying on Marco Bezzecchi more than ever
With Martin’s potential Aprilia exit, Aprilia’s bike development over the next 18 months relies on their Italian rider to deliver.
He’s going to have to steer them in a positive direction ahead of the 2027 regulation changes, which could flip the order of the field.
After sitting bottom of the constructors standings for much of the year, it was apparent that Aprilia had a lot more potential.
They just needed a result to prove to themselves that they could do it. The real fight is only just beginning.
