Jorge Martin’s recovery from a second devastating MotoGP shunt of the season is going well, and eight of his 11 broken ribs have already healed.

It’s currently unknown when Aprilia’s reigning champion will be able to return, but they won’t be in any rush for him to get back to action this time.

Martin was flown home following the Grand Prix of Qatar incident, nearly two weeks on from suffering a pneumothorax.

Now he’s resting back in Spain, and is no doubt already looking at when he can resume training ahead of a MotoGP comeback.

Massimo Rivola will ‘fight’ for a Martin change to make sure that injured riders can test again before returning in the future.

Neil Hodgson predicted how long Martin will be out for and believes that the 27-year-old faces a two-month wait on the sidelines.

Jorge Martin could have MotoGP ‘doubts’ after Valentino Rossi’s ‘scary’ revelation

The 2025 season is already effectively a write-off for Martin, who must now spend his time ensuring that he returns to full fitness while learning everything that he can about his new team.

Neil Hodgson thinks one thing Aprilia have done is a shame, and expected them to sign a better replacement rider as cover for Martin.

It may not be the physical effects of his injury that keep him out. Mentally, he has to prepare too. Valentino Rossi’s recent interview with MowMag shows that he might have a few doubts upon his return.

“Motorcycling is a very dangerous sport, it’s scary. But in the first few years, you don’t even think about it and you just want to do your best. The fear you have is that of making a mistake and ruining the race,” he said.

“Then, after 30, you start to think about being a little more careful. In motorcycling, being brave makes the difference, but until something doesn’t go well for you and then you start to have a lot of doubts.”

How many MotoGP races is Jorge Martin going to miss in 2025?

If Hodgson’s opinion that Martin would need two months to recover from his injuries turns out to be true, it’s possible to calculate when he might return.

Most logically, he would return sometime around the Gran Premio D’Italia, which would be around nine weeks after his accident.

That gives him another week than expected to return, but due to the nature of his previous injury, it may take a little longer.

Just one week after that, there is a race in Assen too, if he wants to rest up a little more. Alternatively, he can take another eight weeks of rest and only miss a few more races.

The summer break falls nicely and would see him return in mid-August, well-prepared to tackle the second half of the season.
