Fermin Aldeguer is starting to find his feet in MotoGP with some encouraging performances with Gresini in 2025.
The rookie had a slow start to life in the premier class after stepping up from Moto2. While teammate Alex Marquez battled for race wins, Aldeguer scored points in Buriram with 13th before finishing 16th in Argentina.
From Austin onwards, the Spaniard has found his feet on the GP24. He reached Q2 for the first time in MotoGP that weekend – albeit he qualified 12th and crashed out in the race.
Qatar was a hugely impressive weekend for the 20-year-old as he qualified eighth. Aldeguer produced a Marc Marquez-esque display as he finished fourth in the Sprint and fifth in the Grand Prix.
Herve Poncharal lauded Aldeguer’s ‘stratospheric’ improvement as he has suddenly become a frontrunner in MotoGP. The Spaniard continued his form at the Grand Prix of Spain, qualifying a career-best seventh.
The Gresini rider came home fifth in the Sprint, but suffered another retirement on Sunday as he crashed while battling for top positions. It was another weekend of learning for Aldeguer, heightened by the mid-season test at Jerez.

Fermin Aldeguer tested a ‘spectacular’ new MotoGP radio system at Jerez
Testing at Jerez gives teams a vital opportunity to gather data, try out new equipment and find improvements on their respective machines.
The times should not be taken too seriously, evidenced by the fact that there was only one Ducati in the top six. However, Aldeguer put in some solid laps for Gresini to finish the day eighth overall.

As well as getting more experience on the GP24, journalist German Garcia Casanova noticed Aldeguer was testing a new system used by every Formula 1 team.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), he revealed that the 20-year-old and fellow rookie Somkiat Chantra were testing a radio system that would allow riders to communicate with the pit wall.
This, as Garcia Casanova notes, would be a ‘spectacular step forward’ for MotoGP. It would allow for constant information to be fed between the pit wall and the riders, aiding strategy and further development of the bike.

Where does Fermin Aldeguer need to improve after latest performances?
Aldeguer’s latest performances have caught the attention of Gresini and Ducati as he begins to regularly make it to Q2 and challenge at the front for a podium.
Davide Tardozzi says Aldeguer is ‘the future’ of MotoGP as he continues to impress in the premier class. However, the 20-year-old is just five races into his career in the premier class, with there still being substantial work to do.
The most obvious is crashes, with accidents in Austin and Jerez denying top results. Gresini’s morale has been affected by a chatter issue on the bike, which will be a factor in Aldeguer’s incidents.
But the Spaniard also has work to do mentally. Aldeguer pays ‘too much’ attention to his rivals on track – he must stay focused on himself and his performance above all else if he wants to find consistency.
