Pit Beirer wants Liberty Media to make one simple but ‘giant’ change when they complete MotoGP takeover

It has been over one year since Liberty Media announced that it would be purchasing an 86% stake in MotoGP.

Still, the takeover is yet to be completed, but there remains plenty to be excited about for the future, considering their success in a rival series.

It’s a time of significant change in the sport, with the likes of KTM experiencing some tough times, which have brought about some adjustments to their racing division too.

Liberty Media have helped to take Formula 1 to a new level and it’s hoped that they will be able to work their magic on MotoGP too.

MotoGP fans will love Lewis Hamilton’s words on Liberty Media after he says that he taught their four-wheeled counterpart how to put on a show.

It was also believed that Liberty could have saved KTM from a ‘nightmare’ by failing to complete their takeover. However, that seems unlikely now.

Pit Beirer wants Liberty Media to turn MotoGP into a ‘huge show’ like Formula 1

The latest deadline for regulatory approval of Liberty Media’s takeover is June 16, much later than they had anticipated to be finished.

They wanted to be done last December, well ahead of the start of the 2025 season, but are awaiting the decision of a more in-depth investigation by the European Commission.

KTM boss Pit Beirer has shared what he wants to see the new owners do differently when they are finally in charge.

“We just have to look into the Formula 1 paddock to see how we can do it better,” he said. “A simple example: If any team improves from 7th place to 5th place at a Grand Prix in the team classification, then it is quite rightly made into a huge show including bonus and giant party.

“That’s the appreciation it needs at this level, and that’s one of the great hopes that we as a manufacturer put into the takeover by Liberty Media.”

How much did Liberty Media agree to pay to buy MotoGP?

Liberty Media’s takeover of MotoGP was a deal which set them back £3.5 billion. They clearly see some potential in the two-wheeled sport.

If they can get even close to replicating the success they have enjoyed in Formula 1, it will turn out to be a worthwhile investment.

The teams and riders should benefit from it. More value means higher wages and potentially prize money in the future.

It feels as if everything is waiting to take off, and who knows? Maybe they will get their own Netflix series soon too?
