Ricard Jove adamant Marc Marquez would be leading MotoGP championship if he was riding for one midfield team

Marc Marquez’s electric start to the 2025 MotoGP season has seen him take seven victories from the first eight races.

His Ducati bike is the class of the field, and he has been able to extract more performance from it than teammate Francesco Bagnaia without making too many mistakes.

Without his Grand Prix of Americas error, Marquez would have won the first eight races of the season and would have had a massive championship lead.

Thankfully, brother Alex has no plans to make his chase of a seventh MotoGP title easy. They will be in close quarters all season.

Marquez has a strong bond with Bagnaia and it wouldn’t be a surprise for them to win every Grand Prix this year.

They have one less fearsome competition in 2025, after Jorge Martin crashed again in Qatar, an incident which could rule him out for the majority of the season.

Ricard Jove adamant Marc Marquez would lead the MotoGP championship on a 2025 Honda

It has nearly been two years since Marquez left Honda to go and ride a different bike for the first time in his career. It was a brave decision.

However, it paid off handsomely, with three victories at Gresini before earning a promotion to the factory Ducati team.

Ricard Jove believes that even if the Spaniard had been competing on Johann Zarco’s LCR Honda this year, that he would be leading the championship still.

“I repeat what I said in the last program. I’m left wondering what Marc Marquez could do with that Zarco’s Honda that is there,” he said.

“He’d be in front now, yes or no? I’m not saying dominating with the Ducati, but with Zarco in front in the rain [he would be able to win].”

How long can Marc Marquez continue to dominate MotoGP for?

Current form suggests that nobody will be able to stop Marquez before the end of the current regulations in 2026.

It means that he has the potential to secure at least two more titles to take his tally in MotoGP to eight, before his competition becomes a bit stiffer.

Marquez feels like Ayrton Senna on a bike, and he performs much like him too. He will be 34 years old heading into the start of the 2027 regulations and if he’s still at the top of his game, he could be around for a while.

He loves riding and he loves winning. Claiming a title this year would see him become the oldest ever champion.

The biggest question may be how much his body can take before it does further damage to him in the long run.
