Angel Charte shares what ‘warrior’ Jorge Martin told him from hospital bed after Qatar Grand Prix crash

Jorge Martin’s mega Grand Prix of Qatar crash saw him break 11 ribs and suffer a pneumothorax on his return to MotoGP.

If missing the first three races of the season wasn’t enough of a blow to Aprilia, he’s now going to miss many more as he recovers from his latest injury.

Martin has been in hospital since his accident and may be forced to remain there for a while as he recovers.

Following the Grand Prix of Qatar, he may not be able to fly for up to three weeks until his lungs have recovered enough for him to move safely.

Fans say Martin’s injury news keeps getting worse, but now that the full extent of the damage has been discovered, he should be on the mend.

Marc Marquez sent a two-word message to Martin and wished him well. The two may have been competing closely on track this year if the reigning champion was fully fit.

Jorge Martin told Angel Charte he’s ‘very encouraged’ after Qatar Grand Prix crash

‘Nobody’ predicted what Martin did in Qatar, as he overtook Francesco Bagnaia on merit during the sprint race.

It was a sign that after his pre-season crash, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel. Things soon came crashing back down to earth on Sunday.

Renowned doctor Angel Charte has revealed what Martin told him in the hospital after his accident in Qatar.

“Jorge Martín has suffered a significant organ injury. What needs to be resolved with the chest tube that was placed in the hospital is for that lung to re-expand,” he told Marca.

“It’s complicated for him because 11 fractures aren’t easy to recover from. He’ll be in the hospital for at least eight or ten days.

“After that, we’ll transfer him to my hospital. I’ve spoken to him several times, and he’s very encouraged. We’re taking things slowly, but surely. We have to give time. Jorge is a warrior and wants to return to racing, like all MotoGP riders.”

How Jorge Martin raised concerns at the Qatar Grand Prix

Martin raised concerns in Qatar after being unable to put his helmet on by himself during his first race back.

Perhaps it was a sign that he wasn’t completely race fit. He struggled to string more than a few laps together on Friday.

His Sunday mistake may have been included by VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio pressuring him from behind, but the Italian rider did a fantastic job avoiding doing more damage.

The brutal kerbs must have played a role in the severity of his injury too. Heavy serrated edges won’t have been nice to roll over at such a high speed.

Mat Oxley thinks MotoGP needs to look at Misano and believes that the kerbs at the Italian track could do damage to riders.
