Francesco Bagnaia is back in the 2025 title race after winning the Grand Prix of the Americas.
The Italian inherited his first win of the season after his Ducati teammate Marc Marquez crashed at turn four on lap nine. The Spanaird ran too high on the wet curb and fell off his GP24.
It was almost identical to the mistake he made at COTA in 2024 when he crashed from the lead with Gresini. Marquez’s first crash of 2025 gave Bagnaia his first win of the season and put him 12 points behind championship leader Alex Marquez.

It has not been an easy few months for the two-time MotoGP champion. Bagnaia lost his crown to Jorge Martin by just 10 points in 2024 after several mistakes hampered his title charge.
The Italian had won 11 out of 20 races, but poor starts and multiple accidents proved costly. Bagnaia thought about his mistakes on his honeymoon as he could not forget about his errors in 2024.

Francesco Bagnaia admits it will take ‘years to digest’ his defeat to Jorge Martin in 2024
Bagnaia had a difficult start to 2025, having to go through Q1 in Thailand and offering little competition to the Marquez brothers in the first five races. He was 31 points behind his teammate going into the Americas Grand Prix.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, the 28-year-old admitted he was still thinking about 2024 and that it would take ‘years to digest’ what happened. It is clear it played on his mind during the first few races of the season with his performances.
“In the end, the last season is still here. I think it will take me years to digest that,” he said.
“What I tried to do during the winter was to analyse why I didn’t manage to win the title.
“Even though I won more races than anyone else, I couldn’t manage to bring the title home. And this was difficult to accept.
“But surely important for my career because when you lose in this situation, either you sink or you try to learn.”

Francesco Bagnaia’s 2025 season has officially begun – can he reclaim the title?
After COTA, the Italian is back in the title fight after his teammate’s retirement. Bagnaia suspected Marquez would crash as he had a ‘premonition’ before the race that he would win.
This victory will be a major confidence boost, especially heading into the next rounds in Qatar and Jerez – two circuits that suit Bagnaia.
Furthermore, Bagnaia will be boosted by Valentino Rossi in Qatar as the legendary rider will make an appearance at Lusail. After beating Marquez in Austin, Bagnaia clearly took Rossi’s advice, giving him the momentum.
However, the Ducati rider is not getting too carried away with there being 19 rounds still to go. Bagnaia says he must be calmer during celebrations as he knows the championship is far from over.
