KTM’s stance on Dani Pedrosa wildcard appearances emerges after Misano test confirmed

It has already been seven years since Dani Pedrosa completed his last full-time season in MotoGP with Honda.

Since then, the Spaniard has competed in four races for KTM while serving as their test rider. He managed fourth at the 2023 San Marino Grand Prix.

After reports that Pedrosa’s partnership with the Austrian outfit would be coming to an end after the Argentina Grand Prix, rumours have been quashed almost immediately.

The 39-year-old will be taking part in a test at Misano alongside the team’s four contracted riders between April 8-11.

Pedro Acosta has urged KTM to ‘understand’ one aspect of their 2025 bike after a slow start to the season. They have lost ground compared to their rivals over the winter.

On the other hand, KTM engineers saw something exciting in Acosta’s data after the season opener in Thailand. More testing will help them extract further pace from their bike – part of Pedrosa’s responsibilities.

Dani Pedrosa has a ‘slim’ chance of MotoGP appearance as a wildcard in 2025

Pedrosa’s last wildcard appearance in MotoGP came at last year’s Spanish Grand Prix – his home race at Jerez.

Sadly, after finishing a promising third during the sprint, he crashed out of 12th place during the main race in tricky slippery conditions.

According to Motorsport.com, his chances of another race are ‘slim’ despite being confirmed for the upcoming test at Misano.

Pedrosa’s contract was renewed last November as he received a one-year extension. Over a decade of premier class experience would be valuable to any team.

During his last season with Honda in 2018, he actually only finished lower than eighth on one occasion, retiring at all other events.

Which season was Dani Pedrosa’s best in MotoGP?

One season sticks out like a sore thumb when assessing which of Pedrosa’s MotoGP campaigns was his best.

He won six of the last eight races in 2012 and retired on the other two occasions, missing out on a maiden title by just 18 points.

Jorge Lorenzo managed to be more consistent throughout the campaign, but it’s a reminder of just how good he was.
