Francesco Bagnaia’s father suspects some MotoGP fans hate his son for one unfair reason

Francesco Bagnaia has failed to meet expectations at the start of the 2025 MotoGP season and is only third in the riders’ championship.

New teammate Marc Marquez has been dominant and the Ducati bike appears to be the class of the field again.

Entering his sixth year in the sport, statistically 2025 has been Bagnaia’s best start to a season despite the lingering air of disappointment surrounding the first two races of the campaign.

He fell off the podium for the first time in six races at the Argentina Grand Prix and must find a way to return at the bare minimum to third place in COTA next time out.

Bagnaia must enter a ‘different dimension’ to beat Marquez according to his father, who is aware of how special the six-time champion across his garage is.

Francesco Bagnaia’s father suspects MotoGP fans hate son for Valentino Rossi ties

Most MotoGP fans are torn between liking one of Valentino Rossi and Marquez. Sadly, Bagnaia can be on the wrong end of their rivalry.

Speaking to Mowmag, Bagnaia’s father admitted that some fans may have hate for him because of his bond with his fellow countryman and motorcycle legend Rossi.

“It’s as if a part of that slice loved him because they identify him with Vale and another slice hated him because they identify him with Vale, without even wanting to realize that Pecco is Pecco, he has his own story, his own personality, his own way of being a pilot,” he said.

“But we are at the same old discussions and it is not even worth having them because it would mean giving weight to those who enjoy it when Pecco wins because it is as if Vale had won and to those who enjoy it when Pecco loses because it is as if Vale had lost.”

Bagnaia’s 2025 performances deserve more respect and he also needs more time to settle with his new bike. Things don’t always click immediately in motorsport.

He won eight more races than any other rider in 2024. That sort of form isn’t too far behind him and shouldn’t take too much to rediscover.

Francesco Bagnaia’s ‘relaxed’ response to Ducati woes shows his true MotoGP position

Despite trailing Marquez by 31 points in the standings, Bagnaia doesn’t appear to be too frustrated at this stage in the season.

He had to close a mammoth gap to Jorge Martin and nearly did so – falling just 10 points short of a third consecutive crown.

Bagnaia’s relaxed response to his Ducati woes shows that he still has plenty of confidence left. He isn’t going to give up on the title after two races.

The further the season goes on, the more he should come into his own. Tracks are going to start suiting his riding style soon and he should be able to bounce back.

The 28-year-old is also learning a lot by having such a talented individual alongside him. It’s going to be beneficial for him in the long run.
