Johann Zarco has enjoyed a heroic start to the season for the LCR team in 2025 on a much-improved Honda MotoGP bike.

He has been the Japanese manufacturer’s most consistent performer through the first two races. He has yielded two top-seven finishes and managed to qualify third at the Argentina Grand Prix.

At the age of 34, Zarco shows no signs of slowing down and is starting to prove his doubters of previous seasons wrong.

If Honda’s current package remains as competitive as it is now. There’s no reason why he won’t be able to compete for podiums this season.

Zarco felt Honda had a disadvantage in Thailand and he may have been right. With less heat in Argentina, his bike performed even better.

His performance reflected well in our Argentina Grand Prix rider ratings, where the Frenchman received an 8/10.

Johann Zarco got ‘very angry’ at his Honda bike after Argentina Grand Prix overtake

Zarco was able to keep in touch with the top three riders at the start of the race but gradually dropped back.

By the end of the Grand Prix, he was attempting to hang on to fifth place. He couldn’t resist a fast-charging Fabio Di Giannantonio though and told the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com that it made him upset.

“In the last laps, the bike moved a lot,” he said. “And I got very angry when ‘Diggia’ happened to me because I felt that maybe I could reach him again, but I really couldn’t.”

Now sitting a remarkable fifth in the standings, Zarco is enjoying his best start to a season since he raced for Ducati.

It has been nearly two years since his last podium, but things are finally beginning to look promising after bettering his 2024 results twice in a row.

LCR Honda have an ‘option’ with MotoGP manufacturer for 2027 and beyond

By the end of 2026, LCR’s Honda partnership will stretch back 20 years and they have a decision to make ahead of the new regulations in 2027.

LCR have an ‘option’ with Honda for 2027 and they could opt to continue the sport’s longest-standing satellite agreement.

Zarco will be 36 years old at the start of the new regulations. If he continues to perform at this level there’s no reason why he won’t hang around.

Current teammate Somkiat Chantra has struggled so far in 2025 and may struggle to remain on the MotoGP grid if he cannot improve.
