Fabio Di Giannantonio’s recovery from a pre-season accident has been impressive, after he foolishly sustained an injury while pulling a wheelie in Sepang.
The Italian rider showed some solid pace at the season-opener in Thailand and took things to another level at the Argentina Grand Prix.
Di Giannantonio qualified sixth and proved that his previously broken collarbone is no major issue for the time being.
His VR46 team have started the MotoGP campaign well, and look as though they might be able to challenge for regular podiums in 2025.
Di Giannantonio admitted he cannot match Francesco Bagnaia yet, but isn’t far off after the two-time champion suffered another poor weekend in South America.

Fabio Di Giannantonio laments Franco Morbidelli overtake which ‘ruined’ Argentina Grand Prix
Di Giannantonio was overtaken by teammate Franco Morbidelli on lap two of the Argentina Grand Prix, however, the late move forced him wide and to lose another position to Brad Binder.
Speaking to GPOne, he revealed how it damaged his hopes after falling behind the KTM of Brad Binder too.
“Without Franco’s overtake, I think I would’ve finished the race differently,” he said. “The start was good, and the plan was to reach a fourth, fifth position right away and then start the chase.
“However, Franco did well and ruined my GP. I was behind Binder three quarters of the race and lost a lot of time, also because Brad is very difficult to overtake.”
He managed a fifth-place finish in the end, just two and a half seconds behind his teammate, but it could have been so much better if he wasn’t forced into a bad position early in the race.

The 26-year-old is competing in his fourth MotoGP campaign in 2025 and has shown consistent improvements since his rookie season in 2022.
Although it has been nearly two years since his first and only victory, Di Giannantonio finished inside the top 10 in every race that he finished last season.
A tenth place finish in the season-opener in Thailand was disappointing but a solid result on his return following his pre-season accident. He had to build his confidence.
Di Giannantonio has been taught by Valentino Rossi and thinks it is ‘so cool’ that he has been able to learn from one of the greats of the sport.
If he continues to take his advice, there’s no reason why he cannot blossom into a consistent contender for podiums and race victories in 2025.
