Francesco Bagnaia is set to be in contention for the MotoGP title for a fifth consecutive season with Ducati in 2025.

The 28-year-old missed out on a third MotoGP crown by just 10 points to Jorge Martin last season, who is no longer riding Ducati machinery now.

Bagnaia may face an even stronger challenge now as he has a new teammate, with ex-partner Enea Bastianini being replaced.

Six-time champion Marc Marquez joins from Gresini, after spending one year on a one-year-old GP23 Desmosedici and winning three races.

Marquez’s words about Bagnaia ‘worries’ Mattia Pasini after he mentioned that the two won’t clash while they’re in the same team.

They’ve collided on track before, notably at the 2024 Portuguese Grand Prix at the end of the race while fighting for fifth position.

Francesco Bagnaia’s mindset makes him ‘untouchable’ against Marc Marquez

Having eight championships worth of experience within the garage can only be a good thing for Ducati’s championship hopes.

Bagnaia realised he gave off bad vibes at Ducati before opting to change his approach. He’s a very calm and level-headed presence now.

It should help him in his battle with Marquez, and Peter Bom believes it goes one step further and makes him untouchable.

“I think it’s a strategy as well. If you’re facing an animal that eats you for breakfast like Marc, you either make sure you’re as strong as him and have the fight on his level, whether you can beat him.

“Or you choose a whole other strategy and I think he did the last. It fits him very very well, because that’s exactly how he is. He was cool with his teammates always.

“He’s the perfect son-in-law, this is what helps him facing a guy like Marc I think because in this way he seems almost untouchable because of this attitude.”

Who has the upper hand at Ducati after MotoGP’s pre-season testing?

MotoGP’s pre-season testing was held between two venues and five days of running before the start of the new campaign.

The first test at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit hosted three days of running, where Ducati sought to learn as much about their new GP25 engine and aerodynamic package as they could.

After the following test in Buriram, they opted to homologate their GP24 engine for the next two seasons ahead of a two-year engine freeze.

Feedback between their riders was almost identical, which is a solid start to their partnership, but Marquez showed more pace and grabbed more of the headlines.

Already there may be a bit of pressure creeping in on Bagnaia ahead the the start of the season, with the Grand Prix of Thailand now less than one week away.
