KTM Tech3 boss tells Enea Bastianini to change one thing about his riding style to achieve his ‘huge potential’

Tech3 have an incredibly experienced and very strong rider lineup for the MotoGP season in 2025 after making two new signings.

They’ve enlisted the services of Enea Bastianini – a former factory Ducati rider, and Maverick Vinales to lead their ship this season.

Tech3 were blessed with the services of Pedro Acosta in 2024, who led them to five podiums before being promoted to KTM’s factory team alongside Brad Binder.

There is little over one week before the new MotoGP season kicks off in Asia, with the Grand Prix of Thailand set to host the first race of the season in Buriram.

Bastianini’s ‘dire’ problem leaves him facing a ‘complicated’ race in Thailand as he struggles to get over issues with tyre wear on his new machine.

Despite their improved rider pairing, team boss Herve Poncharal says Tech3 are ‘not kidding themselves’ over Bastianini and Vinales and doesn’t expect any big results early in the season.

Enea Bastianini needs to adjust riding style to fulfil ‘huge potential’ at Tech3

Bastianini finished fourth in the riders’ championship last year, claiming two victories with Ducati’s GP24 bike.

Since joining the sport in 2021, he has only ever competed on a Ducati bike. It makes moving to KTM a bit of a challenge with a new bike to learn.

Ex-agent Carlo Pernat hit out at KTM for ‘really ugly’ contract talks with Bastianini as he rushed to sign a deal last summer after being notified that Marc Marquez would be replacing him for 2025.

Ducati’s loss was always bound to be someone else’s gain, and new boss Poncharal believes that the Italian rider has much to achieve.

“He has huge potential,” said Poncharal. “He finds some things on the KTM that are better than at his previous manufacturer.

“He says he still rides the KTM like the Ducati, but Enea is improving step by step. At Sepang, he was still a little bit disappointed.”

Enea Bastianini shares the ‘interesting’ thing he has seen in Pedro Acosta’s KTM data

Now that KTM will be operating four bikes of the same specification, it gives their riders at both the factory team and satellite outfit to learn from each other.

There’s nowhere to hide and it means that they should be able to extract more performance from their contracted talents – they know they must learn from each other.

Bastianini has seen an ‘interesting’ thing in Acosta’s KTM data and has found some extra pace from using his setup.

The Spaniard may only be 19 years of age, but a KTM is all he has ever known and it gives him such a high level of confidence on the track.

It’s why he might be a dark horse for the title if everything comes together for the Austrian outfit this season.
