Maverick Vinales is one of the best riders on the MotoGP grid having become one of the first to win with three manufacturers, so here is everything you need to know about the Spaniard.
Vinales’ journey on two wheels began at just three years old, when he started racing on Minimotos and motocross. After settling on competing in road racing, at the age of 12 he became the Catalan champion in 2007.
In 2009, he would go on to finish second in the Spanish 125cc series, before winning it the following year. Then 2011 was a seminal year for Vinales when he debuted in the 125cc World Championship, winning the Spaniard’s first Grand Prix in just his fourth race at the Le Mans circuit at just 16 years old.
Vinales followed it up with three more victories during the season, enabling him to finish third in the standings and claim the Rookie of the Year award. In 2012 he moved up to Moto3 and while it was not as impressive of a season, in 2013 he was involved in a three-way battle for the title with Luis Salom and Alex Rins.
After it went down to the wire in Valencia, a win from Vinales saw him seal his first world title and move up to Moto2. Three victories and a Rookie of the Year award saw Vinales progress to MotoGP with Suzuki.

Maverick Vinales is the first rider in MotoGP history to win with three manufacturers
Vinales’ debut year with Suzuki was impressive, but it was not until the 2016 season that he earned a MotoGP victory at the British Grand Prix. He followed up that year with podiums at France, Japan and Australia, finishing fourth overall in the standings the year that Marc Marquez took his third MotoGP title.
For the following season, Vinales switched to Yamaha where he racked up several victories including finishing third in the championship battle in 2017 and 2019. Relations between the pair broke down in 2021, with Vinales parting ways with the team mid-way through the season to join the Aprilia factory team.
Vinales is known for adapting quickly to bikes, with the Spaniard doing the same at this team. After scoring three podium finishes between 2022 and 2023, he would become the first rider to win with three manufacturers with a victory at the 2024 Grand Prix of the Americas at COTA.
Yet Vinales joined a new team in 2025 as he moved to Red Bull KTM Tech3, with the goal of winning his first MotoGP title with the Austrian team after securing a factory contract despite racing for the satellite team.
